i didn't know which subforum to put this in, didn't seem off-topic enough for the off-topic tavern. and since we could concievably learn something, i felt it appropirate for the production tips.

but oh my, where to start.

grover

using the line out from the worlds cheapest marshall head into a presonus inspire 1394 and my sansamp bass driver. drums are fruity loops. i didn't know what panning was yet.

EDIT: forgot to mention the pirated ozone 2.0

great idea!

your song didn't sound half bad, you apparently knew what a compressor is. I remember thinking "why isn't this doing anything to my sound no matter what I do"

Here's what I found from the depths of my old files:

I used a crappy electric guitar made by a company "Nevada", the line out of an Yamaha MU100R tone generator for the fucking awesome intro thingy, my amazing guitar sound and my horrible distorted vocals. Drums are TD-6KV played by me, using line out, and all this one by one to the microphone input of some crappy computer I had back then.

Apparently, I didn't know things can clip, and I thought all I needed for recording was Audacity. Obviously, I didn't feel like it required any mixing whatsoever, but thinking about it, I'm glad I didn't try.

recorded with fruity loops/ cool edit pro direct into the back of an old p4`s integrated soundcard. guitar was a shitty washburn 7 string into a "sound blaster" guitar amp from the 80s with "tube gain"

then there is LIGATURE, http://www.myspace.com/ligaturegrind recorded mucH the same way, only with a shitty westbury drum kit. At that time I was taping a metal plate
to the bass drum for click hahahaha

I used to worship porn grind, can you tell? lol

Not exactly recorded by me but it's the first recording I was involved with. Think I was 16 or something and I played the drums on that demo and then sat in the control room when mixing time came and just watched and learned. It sounds like crap even though it was recorded at a semi-pro studio but I'm pretty sure the engineer was putting as "much" work into our sound as I'm putting into that black metal guy's sound so... can't blame him =)

Morgan C: that wasn't so bad ;) ... I don't know if I dare to ask since you've problary got the question a couple of times before... who is that girl on your profile picture? :)

I actually like it. I mean, not the mix (though it isn't THAT bad), but the song sounds really good. Did you ever re-record it?

No I haven't re-recorded it.. I actually looked for the DI's a few days ago, with no luck :\ Maybe I'll redo it when I need a break from the modeling stuff :saint:
