this book is seriously kicking my ass right now.

God, yes, Alan Moore is awesome. If you haven't read his Saga of the Swamp Thing, it's like an early version of the Sandman with some of the best writing in the medium I've seen.

Also, From Hell with art by Eddie Campbell is absolutely mandatory reading.

It's a lot darker, more disturbing, and detailed than the movie. In fact, I'd say the movie was merely good while the graphic novel was a masterpiece. Emphasis on graphic because some parts are almost puke-worthily disgusting.

art is good and all that, but the way Watchmen is constructed is what makes me say WOW. like, the seamless way they move between time, and between the pirate-ship comic book story and the real tale...the explanations for retarded costumes...even little things, like making Jon a watchmaker (and then hammering the point home with the Einstein quote)...

The Invisibles isn't as well known, and it is quite hard to read. It's collected in 7 volumes, so you should try the library as $140 is a lot to pay for a comic book. But the Sandman is collected in, I believe, 10 or so volumes, so it's closer to $200 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Comic books are outrageously expensive... :erk:
