Eh. I didn't read the thread, but the title itself was pretty stupid.
An example of a gimmick in metal is the Egyptian theme that is used in an attempt to cover up Nile's lack of songwriting talent.
"Selling out" is watering down your music so it appeals to the masses.
To suggest that these things don't exist is idiocy.
