there's a moth in the kitchen

I'd rather be bitten by some large spider, than bitten by a small venomous one :).

WATCH OUT LITTLE GIRL!!!

I thought that pic was real for about half a second. the monosyllabic expletive FUCK popped up in my mind but then I realised its probably a big dumb model.

@Branwen: I dont understand how people can be scared of mice or snakes but people are! To be honest I have no clue why Im scared of spiders but I am.

im not really afraid of any insects, but i HATE FLIES!!
this one time i was up to my friends cabin and it was like, 3 am, and we were both trying to fall asleep right? there was complete silence..until we heard this buzzing getting louder and louder, for like 10 minutes. I went totally ape shit on it when i seen it..(yelling profanitys, punching it to dust against a wall etc etc) and to only get back in bed..and hear another one :yell:

  The funny thing is you were punching a fly. Its like 1-10,000 the size of your fist. The imagery derived is just hilarious to me

If we ever meet I'll remember not to make any loud buzzing sounds.

..i didnt sleep that night either..i killed 20 flies like that..there was just a pile of dead flies (or what was left of them) on the ceiling and wall in the morning
And one other time we were up there and the was a wasp nest inside the wall..and we couldnt get at it..and they were on the move all the time..so it was non-stop buzzing. Imagine trying to sleep while 200 - 300 wasps are buzzing around in wall next to you

true but, maybe in my insanely annoyed state it allowed me to overcome my cock-eyedness
and by the way im not talking about acctually hitting the fly mid-flight..i mean slaming it into a wall with my fist :loco:

The reasons remain a mystery. A friend of mine is afraid of all animals, no matter if they have legs or not. I've heard our fears originate from childhood memories - maybe your mommy once said to you "Watch out for the hairy spider' when you were too young to remember

And I'm NOT scared of snakes - it was just the unexpected python.

@Branwen: You're refering to Sigmund Freuds Psychodynamic model of cognitive Abnormallity. I remember having a dream where I was talking infront of my nursery class and two huge spiders ran up my body. All I could think to do was kill them so I did by grabbing them and crushing them with my bare hands. I think that dream may have triggered a phobia, as I dont remember being affraid of them before this nightmare.

I seem to be getting worse nowadays. I used to just get shocked when I saw a spider and get someone to get rid of it (the spider). Now I spent half an hour freaking out that there could be more hiding some where and my skin starts crawling.

what long words in the mouth of a 17-year-old!
But there must be something in it. As you say - most phobias are triggered by an event from the past. In your case it was a dream. Childhood memories are perfect material for phobias because whe don't remember them consciously. If we do, we can cope with the fear by saying to ourselves 'yeah, I know, this has frightened me at some time but now I know how to appraoch it'.

i loathe spiders (and this camel spider thingy is terrifying). i'm getting better with time tho - i used to leave the room when one was around, but now since i live on my own and i have a patio with spider-inducing greenery i sometimes need to be bold and kill them. the bad part is trying to kill a spider without staining the white walls - i hate having to paint the bloody spots. as for moths, i'm not a fan either, and they're even a bigger problem because they leave enormous bloodstains if mercilessly squeezed on a wall.
