Why are there never any new threads? There seem to be thousands of 300+ Post threads, but hardly any new ones. Why?

Everything we wish to talk about fits into the threads we already have...? Either that or we're all afraid of cluttering up the board by starting new threads.

there's a serious answer and a not-so-serious one. i'm sure someone will come up with the latter so i give the serious one.
since the regulars here have been more or less the same people in quite some time, all the main topics have been covered already and most just feel like adding the occasional "update" on one of the existing threads.
i'd encourage some more eclectic activity - off-topic threads that deal with one specific issue and sink mercilessly once everybody expressed his/her opinion, a bit like the opeth off-topic - but this doesn't really seem to catch on as proved by the not-enormous success of new threads i posted in the last couple of months.
i suggest all those who'd like to see some more threads to try and post a few new ones: as long as the number of regulars is so small there's no chance to end up with a deluge of spam over the same trite things, which was the main reason for all the thread consolidation going on in the past.

This place is filled with posts like "Does your mom feel better today, Dick?" and "Oh, I'm so happy for you and your grades Bill!", and thats scares newbies away. What should they say in a thread like that? And if they start a new thread they might get five replies and all of them are pissed about it, telling them that the subject has already been discussed before.

I've never opened a thread either. When I reached 500 posts about a year ago I thought I could open one when I reach 1000 but.. we'll see
