This new one though is looking very promising. I love the look of that Iron Bird; any U.S Rich's are great I think. But that one's colour is just gorgeous.
Hope it all goes according to plan dude!
Elysian893 said:looks like maple neck, quilted maple top, is that alder for the body? and either rosewood or ebony fretboard(can't tell, too dark)... is that a dimebucker bridge pup? or just some random rail pup? not sure whats up with the 2 fretboard thing, but it looks like theres also some neck binding in that pic... and if you look really close you can see the fretboard material is preslotted... really hard to see, but on the top one you can most definately see straight up and down lines... looks like maybe an OFR bridge, and looks like there might be a piece of quilted maple for the headstock too..
oh man i should have spotted that x2n! from first glance the rails didn't look thick enough to be an x2n, but i look again and they do... X2N is my favorite pickup in the world, got one in my Rhoads, and my Washburn, and i WISH they made a 7 string x2n, maybe call it the X7N(i even emailed Dimarzio about this, but they were pretty much like "yeah whatever")... the x2n would be the perfect 7 string pickup imo. i was guessing alder on the body wood because i have an alder body blank in my closet, and that wood you have has that kind of darker blonde look of alder...goth_fiend said:Here is the details on what your seeing in the picture:
african mahogany body
eastern hard rock maple neck
quilted maple top (4A) and heastock overlay
walnut headstock overlay (its next to the quilt, not sure which one i will use)
ebony fretboards (not sure which one im going to use, one is jet black, the other has some grain to it, they both look fucking awesome though) and yes they are preslotted for 24 frets @ 25 1/2" scale legnth
gotoh floyd rose
schaller m-6 tuners
dimarzio x2n bridge
bill lawrence xl-500 neck (no its not going in the neck, im not sure whats going there, maybe a super 2 but we will see.)
I may do binding on this guitar, but I dont have any yet, but we will see, as for inlays, i was thinking of something like this across the 10-14th frets....

my initials are definatly going either on the 1st fret or on the heastock in old english, possibly in abalone but im still not sure yet
Im still trying to decide if I want to do stringers yet to, but we will see on that as well
lol it doesn't need one! and if i wanted a boost i could program it into a new patch on my vamp pro... gotta love having the floorboard.goth_fiend said:have you ever tried using a booster with the x2n? talk about gain from hell man its such awesome tone though
i don't have an issue with my Rocktron Hush IICX i recently acquired, but its only seen 2 shows(1 opening for reunion lineup testament, another opening for cannibal corpse, sadus, and incantation) before i quit my last band... whether it was the washburn with its brand new x2n or the rhoads v with its older x2n, both had no problems feeding back if i wasn't careful... not as much of an issue live where you only turned up about halfway, but it was an issue in practice when your other guitarist didn't know what quiet means lolgoth_fiend said:I have NEVER had a feedback issue with the x2n, its all about eq'ing your amplifier with that pickup its so hot as it is already, but its output is fairly well balanced, so if you keep that in mind you should not have a problem (I really shouldnt mention that the booster i use is a 10x unit right? )
man all i can say is this is definately the best pickup ever made, and sometimes the feedback can be welcome, but other times its not... its an art form in its own right to control that with this pickup haha... seriously though, the way i look at this pickup is, its as hot as any emg, but it isn't stale, the natural tone of the wood still comes through in the pickup... my alder bodied rhoads v sounds drastically different from my mahogony bodied washburn(which they say mahogony is supposed to be real muddy with the x2n, but i don't find it as such at all), both neck through.... anyways, enough about the x2n, good luck on this project, i was planning on attending roberto-venn school of luthiery this fall, but pushed it back to spring, and now i have a job offer that i absolutely positively cannot refuse, so i'm pushing it but until further notice, i still really want to attend that school, but right now, everything is going the right direction in my life, and i really feel i must go with it, its the best way to go.goth_fiend said:cool stuff man, most people dont like the pickup for that reason..
yeah i was accepted and everything(funny enough got my acceptance letter on christmas eve, if i were christian thatd probly be even cooler), but i definately can't do it at this point in my life... i'd really love to do something like that for a living though, its something i know that i would enjoy and i am certain that i would do very well with. i've only got experience with an x2n in alder and mahogony, 1 my rhoads, 1 a stealth, and 1 my washburn...goth_fiend said:good luck with that man, I really just want to build for myself, maybe when I get good enough start a small shop, but never make a career out of it, thats really cool, roberto-venn is the top place from what i understand.
as for the x2n being the best pickup, its definatly a aweseme one thats for sure, but its not good with certain woods (dont use it in an ash bodied guitar...ick)
