I, however didn't like the solo tone + the panning. bring it over to the center and use a better tone.
If we're bothered by other minor imperfections, don't worry 'cause the general listeners won't say shit.

To be honest i haven't spent much time with the lead tone. Regarding the panning - i guess i am just a bit old school: two guitarists, two solos= 1 right & 1 left...like Slayer etc. However if you think it doesnt fit the music then i could go for centre placement of all solos...??
What didnt you like about the lead tone? Is is too middy?, undergained, what do you think?

..yep i got a little paranoid on the level of the drums. In truth i would be happy to bring them a little higher, i was losing the toms a bit

The kick doesn't cut through on the attack on the fast parts, it still sounds like a big ass truck with its engine on... (WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM) :) But I think this sounds much better than the previous version I heard some time ago in another thread. I'd probably agree with what's been said about the solo too.

You could try messing with an EQ to try spiking up a little attack in the kick. I've found that you get a deathcore type of kick if you let the attack reside in the 2.7-3.2 khz area or so, while more "standard" clicky metal kicks have their attacks higher up, like in the 5 khz area. Transient designers might also help a little if you set a very short attack time and let it push the kick up, or just tweaking the compressor that is already on might be enough. Whatever you do, if you decide to do anything, don't overdo it :)

Dude, thanks for listening again:) I did some work with the kick mainly scooping out some of the low mid and upper bass to remove the truck engine...:goggly: So maybe i will try to push the 2-3K a bit more under parallel compression and also i will try the voxengo transient plug on the kick (i already have it on the snare...).
BTW - What don't you like about the lead tone?

If you do the stuff you listed now, I think the kick will improve... it SHOULD atleast! :)

About the lead tone, I was mainly on about the panning, I think it should be centered. As for the tone itself, I kinda like dark muddy/middy tones sometimes so I'm not sure if I'm really bothered by the current tone but... perhaps it could be a bit clearer, sharper, less middy whatever... etc. :) It's just a matter of taste I guess.
 
@ Gojira - i will post again when i have made the changes. I will try a mix with the leads centred and a bit compressed, perhaps also a little darker. Thanks for listening - appreciated!


@Neil_Mad - mainly using Cubase native EQs, using URS compressor plugs; especially the ProNative strip-i like that one a lot. Also using the free Kjaerhaus comp. Because of time constaints the gtrs are all amp sim: Amplitube (modern lead amp) with GuitarHacks IR (i think its called new_IR) running in Voxengo Boogex. Rolled off at 100Hz and 12KHz, cut at 5K and boost at 1.4K. GTRs are just double tracked...was no time for quad tracking. Preamp was a Studio Projects tube pre - used for GTR and Bass. GTRs used all had passive PUPs: BC Rich Ibanez and ESP.

...so here is another mix: Hopefully the kick doesnt sound so truck like now. I pulled it out of the parallel drum bus and further boosted upper mids on both kick and para. comp'd track plus routed it to the transient enhancer. Its not great but it is better...
I re amped the leads - changed the tone , darkened the verb and used a differnet IR. Can i go with this?

The gtrs can be fixed easily so thanks for the heads up on the gain.
..And yes i agree the toms are not that well defined but they are my best toms yet so i guess i should be satisfied with that. It is difficult for me to get a really good kick-snare-tom separation on this fast style of grind/death:goggly:
..i have also realised the short comings of my cheap monitors (not that i want to blame my tools!:blush:)
