And by the way. Valley Forge fucking sucks. The opening is ripped off straight from Gallows Pole or Blood On My Hnads or some D&D song for christ sakes. And When The Eagle Flies is the gayest fucking Iced Earth song yet. I mean light a doob and hug a fucking tree. Screw that singy singalong lyrics crap in the background. Jon lost his balls.



And for ya all..... fuck you. I do what I like, and say what I think needs sayin. You dont like it, fuck off. Too bad Jon doesnt think like that anymore except to tell a fan "if you dont like it dont buy it" Hypocrite.

Now feel free also to give me lots nad lots of negative feedback and call me all sorts of names anonymously :) I like getting those.

No need to get mad. It's not like IIF doesn't know his shit, because I know he does. It's just an opinion. Free thought is what makes this world go 'round. I don't agree with his opinion but that doesn't give him any less right to speak his mind just because his opinion is that of a minority thought.

Not everyone has to like new Iced Earth, just as not everyone has to like new Metallica. I like the new single and I look forward to the full album, but it's not the same without Barlow, but I'll take what I'm given and be happy. I mean, forums ARE for stating opinions and making discussion after all, right?
 
You're trolling, dude. You jump into every topic mentioning Tim and yell "FUCK OWENS!" And then you don't even bother defending your opinions. I don't think you're stupid, but you're acting like a moron. So you don't like Iced Earth anymore, fine...to be honest, I think they've been kinda mediocre (studio-wise) since '95. But I don't go around screaming "FUCK ICED EARTH!" in every thread. Just get over it and try some reasoned discussion, man.

Now... I dont hate Iced Earth. Well..

Iced is/was certainly my favorite band up til now. Jon is easily my favorite guitarist and the music is great. I loved everything about this band. Then Glorious Burden happened.

Firstly yes I dont feel at all Owens is a decent replacement for Matt. I think the main reason Jon wanted him is because he was in one of Jons favorite bands growing up and resembles Halford.One of the reasons I get so pissed about him is because here, much like Frozen Messages, most Iced Earth fans have their lips permanently planted on Jons ass. NO criticism at all is allowed. And Jon has done the most perfect thing ever by getting Tim. I disagree and the more I read how people say Tim is the greatest singer ever for Iced Earth and he is way better than Matt is just bugs the hell out of me because the Iced Earth I love is gone. To me it now seems way cheesier with Tim.

Also another thing that is really bothering me is the blatent ripping off of now his own riffs. Its fucking disgusting to me when an acomplished guitarist or any musician does this. Your job is to sit down all day and play your fucking guitar or whatever instrument you play. Jon doesnt have a day job anymore so its all he has to do. Valley Forge starts off exatly like Blood On My Hands, I've heard bits of Diary and Damien in Reckoning and I've heard other riffs from old IE songs as well. And like I said, its disgusting to me to have that happen. I bust my ass at my instrument and try to be as good as I can be and as original as possible. To me it just seems like he is cheating us fans and giving us something very mediocre.

To be honest, I didn't really catch that much riff recycling in the clips I heard...maybe it was just well disguised. I can live with that...fact is the songs didn't bore me like Dark Saga & Horror Show, and that's a good thing.

I do agree that Jon's kinda full of himself (kinda really), but where on this board did you see people dismissing Matt for Tim?
 
I can't really judge "The Glorious Burden" considering I didn't ehar the whole thing yet, and Ripper is definately a good vocalist, but I doubt even Matt would make these songs sound good. The Reckoning is decent, but everything else sounds like it was lifted from Demons and Wizards, recycled from there, even Ripper sounding a tad like Hansi at parts (not closely, but I still felt like I was listening to Demons and Wizards).

Iced Earth was for a long time my favorite band, and I'm not saying they're not going to be afterwards, but The Reckoning single sounds recycled and poorly written, and I personally hated it.
 
Actually, IIF, I never really thought about that before. You said you think he chose Ripper because he worshipped Priest, and I think I agree with that. I mean...Jon probably could have found a more mid ranged vocalist if he went through auditions and crap, but he just went straight for Ripper. Bah.

I like Jon Schaffer and Iced Earth a lot, but some of the stuff he does makes me wonder. I'll always be a loyal Iced Earth fan, but some things Jon does with his music I really don't agree with. However, it's his band and he is allowed to do what he wants, and thats how all bands SHOULD be.

They should have the freedom to do what they want with their music and not be beaten over the head for doing what they want. However, if I were in Jon's position I would look for a different singer, but that's just me.

If someone loves your band the way it was then it's good not to try to make big changes where they may not be needed (I'm speaking in terms of singers). But it couldn't hurt to come up with a few new riffs...

Jon's obviously a very talented guy, and I think he could apply himself a little more.

Eh, my post ended up looking like shit. My mind must have been wandering.

I really agree with some of the arguments you cite, though I haven't heard Reckoning yet, so I can't really tell you anything about what I think about the album.
