THOR official trailer

I love how they are using the Destroyer in this. I think it is just going to be an OK movie. The character has never been super interesting. At least they stayed true to the costume and stuff. The Captain America costume looks terrible.

The Captain America mask/helmet looked kinda awkward in the photo I saw. I think it'll be entertaining, but I have to wonder if that is just a hard look to pull off IRL.

Watching that Thor trailer makes me wonder why I was never into Thor comics as a kid. While I wasn't much into superheroes, I was really into mythology and fantasy, and this movie looks like a great mix of the two.

Why do they have to keep doing the 3d thing? I noticed several scenes in the trailer that were "Look how cool 3D looks" scenes.

'Cause it's the new technological trend out there when it comes to watching anything on TV.

A few years ago, we'd be saying "Why do they have to keep doing the HD thing?"

And before, "Why do they have to be releasing these flatscreens now?"

And before, "Why does every movie come out in DVDs now?"

Etc.

Exactly...the best thing to do is see it in 2D and not support any film that uses the 3D conversion process. Eventually studios will see that less people are seeing the 3D version and stop using the process. If the film is not being shot with a 3D camera, dont bother. People dont realize that it is the biggest scam out there right now. Out of all the 3D movies there are very few that are being shot correctly with 3D gear and not the cheap transfer process that makes the film look muddy.

I think the Thor film will be better than I thought it was going to be but for the Marvel movie line it will be a low seller. The character never really sold lots of books, but the same could be said for Iron Man. But the Iron Man film had bigger stars and was a well made movie. I think Marvel now is making all thier films to set up the next one and the next which is cool but you are forgetting to tell a good story.

My biggest issue with the Captain America film is that they got rid of the nazi stuff and put in Hydra as the villians in WW2. If you are going to make a WW2 film....everyone knows what happened and who the bad guys are. Just because you dont want to have nazi stuff in a film where kids and merchandise are going to be sold....then dont do that era. Why change the mythos of the character. You could do his whole origin in the opening credits and save us from a long drawn out set up. oh well.

Unfortunately, as much as I hate 3D and find it to be a gimmick, it might not go away so easily. From what I've been reading, 3D is responsible for about 70% of total ticket sales, overall, in the US. I'm glad that we don't offer 3D at my theater, but the way things or going, that might change in a few years.

I dont think it will go away. It has saturated way to much this past year but what people dont realize is that when you film in actual 3D it is a whole different way of filming. You cant have rapid cuts in action scenes due to the human eye not being able to get the full picture and 3D within the frames needed so lots of the big action films cant have the ultra fast cuts like they do know. It is tons more expensive to shoot in real 3D so we will see actually less real 3D films...what we will get is all these movies run through the 3D conversion process and then we get a muddy looking movie at a higher ticket price. 3D needs to stop being just a gimmick and be a part of the film itself without having to have cheap things shooting out at people. As much as I hated Avatar....the landscapes were very beautiful to look at. This is what 3D needs to be in order to survive. Basically a way for the background and landscapes to really stand out and help the story and feeling than just be there to have things fly out at you.

I think 3D is a cancer to film, but at the same time, it's sometimes fun to throw away my snob hat for some mindless entertainment. For example, Jackass 3D made great use of the 3D and I had alot of fun in the theater. However, I will never buy a 3D TV, etc etc. HD on the other hand (AngraRULES compared the HD trend to 3D) is essential. You gotta be crazy to not own a tv that at least does 720p in this day and age.

Completely agree. HD is amazing, as I own a blu-ray player and a 1080p tv and will never look back. 3D is something I'm not actively participating in, be it at the theater or at home. And yes, Jackass 3D was hysterical, although I only saw it in 2D, as I saw it on vacation at a theater that only offered 2D. I mainly hate 3D because I think it's a cheap gimmick unless done correctly, and because of the fact that I get people who come into the theater, and when it's explained to them that we don't have 3D, they look at me and say:

"It's not in 3D?"
"No, it's in 2D."
"2D, what's that?"
"Uh... like every other regular movie you've ever seen?"
"I don't get it."
*facepalm

I read somewhere it's being done partly to try and stop so much pirating.Don't know if that's true or not,but I guess it would be hard to record a movie in a theater that's in 3D because you couldn't put that part in the experience by recording it with a camcorder.

You know, the first time I saw this trailer I wasn't exactly excited for it. However, every time I see it for some reason I get more excited. Trailers usually don't do that to me. The thing that worries me is that there's just an oversaturation of superhero movies, which means there will most likely be some duds in there. This I think has a good chance, but others I'm not so sure. We also have Green Lantern and Captain America this year. Next year, we'll get the new Batman, Spiderman (don't even get me started on this reboot which has disaster written all over it) and Avengers. Hell, I'm probably missing something too on top of that. I like these types of movies, but if there's too many of them, I will tire of them.
