What is the easiest/cheapest way of building/converting a studio with a proper isolated sound proofed drum room and separate control room? I was thinking of buying a massive steel constructed building for around £8000 and partitioning it. Is there a easier and cheaper way?

At the moment I mic amps and record drums in my control room (lounge). Obviously building a proper studio is a big investment so I was just curious :-)

Thanks

This is too big a question for a single post, or even an entire thread. Thus, I direct you to the "Studio Construction" forums at Gearslutz:

Studio Construction

I can tell you that the building is only the beginning. Average cost for a professionally-built studio is probably at least £125-250 per square foot. You can compromise on construction to save money but the bare minimum is still going to take you into five digits (maybe even six digits counting equipment).

I think my studio cost /per m2 was about 500$ and it would have been even more expensive if we where to use profession basstraps etc. So it will be quite expensive either way.

I've decided to buy a steel building (about 14ft by 12ft) for only £600 and attach it to my house with a door leading into it from my control room. This will just be the drum room. I'll build a floating floor, ceiling, and build fibreglass and plasterboard into the walls. When I do it I'll try to remember to add a diary about it :-)

Cheers guys
