This morning I was looking at the availability of Symphony X tickets for The Pearl Room tonight. The Pearl Room's page is under construction, so I figured the Ticketbastards site would show me availability. No problem. Tickets are $30 + $7.50 "convenience charge". We're going to buy them at the door, so I wanted to find The Pearl Room's phone number. They have a MySpace page, so I went there. They list Symphony X for $25.

So not only does Ticketbastard charge an outrageous "convenience charge", but they also inflate the price of the tickets.

after seeing tix brokers have Scorpions tix before they even went on sale I thought, wow, it's time to start a petition to limit the amount of money a broker can charge for a tix. Scorps tix are 69.75, all is said and done w/ tixbastard $82.10.

Then I did some searching and the more I learned the more I thought there would be no way to stop brokers from charging $700 for a tix they paid 70 for. It's all about the allmighty dollar and the brokers get "forwarded contracts" so they get tix before fans can. One would think that a 3x limit would be satisfactory. But their reasoning is "if we don't limit the sale of ticket the first time, why should we limit in when it is resold."

I also found that there are sites that sell presale passwords, so if you think you're signed up with that special card that gets you a presale password, well you can buy them so I guess there are no special benefits afterall.

Dont forget the shipping fee of like 3.50, even if you do will call. I think there might even be a facility fee above that too.... :waah:

I tried to order Symphony X tickets 10 days before the show and Ticketmaster wanted all their traditional rapage fees plus charged a minimum of 15 dollars to mail the tickets. It did not give me a web print option or standard mail one. Thankfully Pearl Room sells tickets at the door and there's never a scare of a show selling out.

My new Pearl Room strategy is: when I'm at a show, I'll buy a ticket to the next show I want to see. I bought my Symphony X ticket when I was there for Powerfest. I'll by a ticket to Epica tonight while I'm there for SX. At Epica, maybe I'll buy a ticket to Edguy or something.

See ya tonight!

If youre to lazy or cant make it to the venue before hand, ticketmaster knows that they can make more money out of you...

House of Blues in L.A. will sell tickets to shows at the venue.....but often times they will run out and say "We can only get a limited amount of tickets to sell AT the venue, but you can go online to ticketmaster....." Now how is it that a place that is holding the show can't get enough tickets?!?!!?

I avoid Ticketbastard at all costs, their extra charges most of the time end up being right around half the cost of the ticket itself.

I remember a few years ago, I went to get preshow tickets. The pre show was $8, door was $12. With all the fees, my total ticket came to $14. Now, how is that saving me any money? Thankfully my card didn't go through and I didn't complete the transaction.

If I can, I get the tickets direct from the venue or the artist.

I was going to go online to buy tickets for Michael Schenker's show on Long Island. The whole shebang went for $39.75.

Problem was....the tix themselves cost all of $12!

Somehow I doubt Ticketmaster marked a ticket up from $12 to $39.75.

And to contribute to the topic, Ticketmaster is definitely out of control with what they charge. At the same time, charging something is fair since they're saving you the hassle of having to go to the venue yourself and get the tickets. In most cases they are still cheaper than what it would cost to go get it yourself, and if not, then you can just do that :) That being said, their fees have risen to unreasonable amounts lately, I agree there for sure.

Find out if a local band is opening. Buy your tickets from them. Save money and support young bands.

and remember Atlanta folks - you can buy your Aug 7th Masquerade Symphony X tickets directly from Halcyon Way for a mere $14 each. :heh:

The only... ONLY... smart way to buy tickets.

Find out which bands are opening for the show. Contact them and get your tickets from them. It helps the band, and keeps your wallet fatter for beer and t-shirts at the show. I always try to get my show tickets from the local openers, cuz I wanna help the good bands in town. Yeah, sometimes the openers aren't that good, but their cheaper ticket prices are!

I believe the reason for the discrepancy in basic ticket price was because you looked on the day of the show. Prior to Sunday, the base ticket price was listed correctly on Ticketmaster as $25. The MySpace page probably was not updated to include that minor detail. I was surprised as well when I showed up at the door and had to pay $30 instead of $25. "Day of show" increase was what I was told.

$7 fee, and another $18 to mail me my tickets. OK, shoot me. $37
