I've been trying at this for a year now, not getting anything much better than this. The guitars seem empty, bass doesn't mix well with the drums or guitar. I'm using a used sm57, a used 565SD, which i think are both kind of damaged. I'm also using a Marshall MG50C (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MG50CFX)
With a little bit of a distortion boost from the digitech RP255.
i'm also using a Apogee Duet as my interface.

What I suppose i'm asking really is, if I get a better microphone, will that make the guitar sound much better? i'm thinking about getting a Karma Trinity Condenser mic,
(http://www.karmamics.com/shop/Condenser-Mics/).

Here's my track, Thanks!

I dont think the mic is the problem. I think its the Amp/Cab. Dont want it to sound empty? Get a bigger and better Amp and Cab.

get an sm57 to mic your amp with. But with the gear you have I would just record the DIs from the guitar and use an amp sim like TSE X50 with IRs.

@plisken - well, I was using a Randall T2C 100W tube amp, but i was getting the Same Empty sound. It was a nice full, thick sound and this amp is not bad, not as good as the Randall, but not bad.

@ericlingus - i've never had good sound with direct-in guitars, the distortion with them is just awful. Is the TSE X50 going to give me a nice full sound? (What is IR?) Do you think a new SM57 would give me a better sound than this used one?
