No PC Haters Please:

I'm getting tired of my AMD X2 4400 (2gb ram) system. It seems slow and dated when running Audition 2.0 and my various plugins across 20+ tracks.

I heard some really good stuff about Intel's new Core 2 Duo line. The E6600 is cheaper than I bought my X2 4400 for...and is supposed to be WAY faster!o_O

But should I maybe wait a few more months for the new Intel Quad Cores to become cheaper and go for that ??:err:

The Core 2 Duo line is smoking on Sonar but I see you use Audtion. I would say check the Audition Forums and see if you can get any hands on advice.

I there are supposed to be smokin'! I'm pretty sure when tax return season is here.......it is either a Core 2 Duo, or Quad Core DUo. Probably just depends on price of the quad at that time!

Just bought a Dell XPS 700 jet black, with a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo all i had time to do last night was connect the fire pods but tonight im going to install all my plugs and Nuendo 3 and import some of my previous sessions on it to see how it does. Nuendo 3 supports the new Core 2 Duo and steinburg states that there is a large performance boost from a single core hyper threader to the Core 2 Duo. cant wait to see for myself. As far as the quads go i imagine they are going to be fairly pricey for awile. What im going to configure within the next few days might be something you can keep in mind when you go to get a new machine. There is a software app that lets you link 2 DAW's together one being the host and another being a slave that you use its CPU for just VST plugs and VSTi instruments. Im going to try and get my 2 machines settup tonight running this config and using my Core 2 Duo machine as the host i will let you know how it goes. im excited as HELL:headbang:

Hey Apollo,

I'm running an AMD dual core 3800+ with 2 gigs of ram here, and it's simply lightning for audio production. I'm not kidding either. I was working on a mix last night with 56 tracks running numerous heavy duty reverbs & comps... with no slowdowns or dropouts. Oh yeah, and all at 88.2khz sample rate. (more on that later)

The problem is not your chip. It's your software. It's badly written.

PM me for some help. I don't want this devolving into a public flame war.

I got a question...

Now for example with like Izotope ozone which is very cpu heavy, Is this not as cpu heavy with well written software programs such as saw studio??

That would be awesome if they less cpu but i can't see how that would change. I don't think you are gonna start a war either I'm very curious in these kinda things!!

Yeah there is something else wrong with your computer. I have no issues liek you mention, even with a single core AMD.... I can run plugins galore, and my cpu never breaks 15% usage

Hey appollospead, I did a ruff test on the system i mentioned above. after i linked my 2 machines through a LAN connection and installed FX teleport, i just imported a stereo wave into Nuendo 3 on the Host machine running the core 2 duo, and threw a bunch of plugs on the master buss from the slave vst machine. and i have to tell you i just about had to change my pants! The CPU usage meter on Nuendo showed that it wasnt even using any of the Hosts machines CPU even on playback and very little of the slaves CPU. So basicaly tonight im going to transfer a 34 track project to my new Host machine and just run everything off of it plugs and all, and then within the same project Farm out the VST plugs to the slave machine, and then i will have an idea of how much of a difference the core 2 due has made over my single core hyperthreader and i will be able to see how much a difference farming out my vst plugs makes. Just from the simple test i made last night i was fucking blown away:OMG:

Ok results are in, The dual core duo shits on a single core hyperthreader, wich was to be expected. So im just saying if you have the cash get you a new dual core machine and use your old one as a VST slave! i cant even fucking believe what im able to do now, Waves SSL channel on every track of the drums, and just for shits and gigles i ran Guitar Rig 2 on all 4 of my guitar scratch tracks and Ampeg Svt on the bass not to mention all the other shit i had running on vox and Group buss's, my new settup just laughed at me. :heh:

Your probably right.....I usually never break more than 50 % or more on CPU with 20+ tracks with plugs. But I get lots of problems with dropouts and especially drumagog not triggering right half the time.
I tried Sonar 5 and it wont even run audio right on my computer.......totally ass!:puke:

I think I just need to get another computer.....maybe my ram or board is fucked? Who knows.

Sweetness! Glad to hear those Core2Duos are kicking ass!!

I was looking on Dell and I could get an E6600 w/ 2gb ram, 500gb HD, etc.... for a little under $1500! Not too shabby!:)

I've made my pc 1month ago with 450€ and it works very well with sonar 6.
Amd 3800+
1Gb ddr2
Seagate 300Gb
...

It's not a dual core but I run the ronnie rocker's song (the song of the mix challenge) without a problem, with lot of plugs loaded, drumagog on kick and snare, waves ssl on every drum track...the cpu loaded is max 40%..

I´m gonna buy be me a new PC next year.

My studio setup is an 2800+ amd 64 bit
1gb ddr 400 ram
250 HD
5200geforce fx

I dont get any money for this so I would make a slave off it;)

so please tell
