Today I begin the Master Cleanse!

The problem with this thread is that Detox is being used to mean "no alcohol" when the thread's intention for "detox" mean SO MUCH MORE

I can go without alcohol for months - two/three months usually. When I was 17 I decided to stop drinking at all and I actually managed not to have an alcoholic drink in two years, but then I decided I love wine too much.

I never tried not to eat though. My boyfriend did it once for two weeks or so. He was cranky as hell.

Yes, his detox is fru-fru bad science and nutrition, and anyone who thinks they can get away with not eating for extended periods and living on juices and liquids is going to cause damage to their bodies in both the short and long terms.

I don't drink often enough or in large enough amounts that detox would benefit me at all. In my history, alcohol has NOT affected me adversely outside of drinking too much of it at that moment.

I don't drink often or in large amounts as well... (well, unless I go out
for that purpose and to have a good time)
Like I said: even if you're having ONE beer a day- and you have a work-out
goal, you'll be surprised how much that ONE lousy harmless beer effects
things in your body- and how fast and better your work out would be WITHOUT any alcohol at all.

's all.

ALSO:

Some critics point to lack of essential nutrients in this fast, citing a deficiency of protein, vitamins, and minerals.[5]

As a result of these deficiencies, individuals on the diet may experience dizziness, delirium, and fainting in the short term, with possible damage to the body occurring in longer-term applications.[5] Dr. Joel Fuhrman attributes these effects to detoxification, which he says passes after the toxins are eliminated.[6]

Many authors assert the benefits of fasting are related to its lack of nutrients, particularly macronutrients.[6][7][8][9]

Dr. Ed Zimney has asserted that, while toxins (such as mercury from the ingestion of fish) do accumulate over time, lemon juice and maple syrup could "not in any possible way eliminate any of these toxins." [10].

People with intestinal conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome may experience added discomfort while on the cleanse. However note that this is in fact one of the treated conditions of the fast.[citation needed]

There is a risk that the saltwater "flush" may remove both beneficial and harmful bacteria from the body[5]. A no-food diet may cause the gut to stop passing food, resulting in constipation, or may make the consumption of food immediately after the fast painful. These are the important reasons to follow the fasts' instructions correctly.

I highly doubt the problems are due to "detoxification," but more the body reacting negatively to the sudden loss of expected nutrients and solid matter intake. Forced metabolism changes aren't going to happen painlessly.

This idea is ridiculous... it's so ridiculous I'm not even going to fini

I agree with you David.... I don't know about "not eating".... sounds kinda 'rediculous' to me,
and I wouldn't expect it to be healthy really...
I heard it's good to stop eating for 24 hours and only drink water, but 10 days with no food?!
what's the point?
a person still DRINKS the sugar and the toxic... right?!

plus... no food?
eek.
Can't do that.

But hey... good luck to those who are willing to do that.

good luck brook, im sorta doing the same

gone without 1 drink for a little over a week now.

also i stopped smoking recently, i find that working a lot then comming home and going to sleep knowing you have another 12 hr shift prevents you from having the time to drink....that seems to be whats helping me out right now.

to quit smoking, i ate sunflower seeds, it helps believe it or not.

BTW.... January 10th was my year and a half without even ONE cigarette!
I'm extremely proud of myself :)

That's great! So, is it true that smoking keeps you thinner easier? Do you find yourself feeling that you need to work out more now that you don't smoke? Not that you'd ever be anything less than hot, but I'm just curious :)

Cara- to be honest with you... I think quitting ANYTHING is individual...
for me: it was the realization that I'm a health nut, who buys organic meat and eggs, and eat a lot
of veggies, AND SMOKES.
makes no sense.
Plus, the news of a family member, getting lung cancer...
I quit cold turkey... I remmeber the day: July 10th: at my DC night club:
I bummed a cigarette from a friend, and took one drag and dropped it on the floor
saying I will never touch it...
from that day: NADA, not even a drag...

The first month after I quit: I started eating Peppermint Patty's ALL DAY LONG
I think I had probbaly 6-7 patty's every day..
then, slowly that stopped as well, and now I'm just FINE.

Working out is a lot better: because I don't have to breath like a dead frog,
and I can sing again, which I thought I had lost forever!
....Not sure about the thinner easier thing though.... again, I think it's individual...
One thing is certain though: smoking fucking sucks, and I'm so happy that
nasty thing is OUT DA WINDOW!

Yeah, I'm sure that is just an individual thing. I mean, I know a few obese people who smoke and I doubt they'd blow up any bigger if they quit.

I'm glad you quit though Kawen :Spin:

Well, this thread has gotten interesting while I've been out ;)

The Master Cleanse is a full system cleanse. We've all got toxins and other rubbish deposits hanging around out body, which impedes our system from performing to it's full potential. The whole maple syrup/lemon juice/cayenne idea may be a bit of pseudo-science, but its essence does make sense.

Most of our bodies energy goes is used in digestion, wiping out the resources to perform other tasks critical to health and well-being. (like the post-burrito siesta) Fasting allows your body time and energy to hit at other things that it needs to. Many people go one day a week without food, which is quite beneficial. I'm just cashing in all my chips in one go ;)

At the end of Day1, I feel great. I've got a spring in my step, and I feel light, not having to use all that energy digesting food. I doubt I'll make it all 10 days, but we shall see....
