Toms, before or after compression?

Same question for bass. I really can't decide where I like my EQ. Sometimes I like the way the comp will pump on hard transients, and other times I just want to crank the sc a little higher. What's your take on the matter?

Are we talking about TOMS specifically? If so i do Comp after EQ (I think thats what you asking) and maybe some EQ afterwards again.

Toms and bass. I don't see it as an aesthetic thing anymore, lately I'm all about conservation of headroom. It's the bass and tom interaction I'm interested in.

This is basically what I do. Subtract bad frequencies, comp the nice, filtered sounding tom, then boost to taste. =D

most of the time eq will alter the low-end, which is the main thing that makes compressors tick differently, if you boost the shit out of the lowend on your toms it's gonna choke the compressor on the attack, food for thought.
