I just got a Squier VM Jazz so I can get clankier bass on demand, it was something of a leap of faith but it was at a good price, only about £25 more than most have been going + shipping second hand.
I've been using a Mexican P Bass for demoing etc for a while, and to test out whether or not it truly was worth getting I recorded a quick little snipped of the P bass with its 18 month old low string, removed the string, put it on the VM and played the same notes to see how it compares. Excuse the sloppy playing, I really did mean "quick".
