can a tonepurt ux1 act as a preamp for an sm57?

i never done any of my own recordings with a sm57 so to throw it in front of a peavey 6505+ do i need a preamp for the mic or will it recieve enough of a signal to decently record? or could i use a DI box and use a ground lift to boost the signal?

sorry - recording newbee:cry:

Doesn't the toneport UX1 have an XLR input? That means it has a preamp, though not necessarily phantom power (though that doesn't matter in your case, cuz the SM57 doesn't need it)

it has an XLR input ...BUT when im running line 6's gearbox and when i go to some of the vocal presets it says in brackets beside each preset (preamp required) - thats prob for a condenser mic yea?

Plug the SM57 in the XRL input, bypass the Preamps/Amps/Cabs/Fx in Gearbox and you're ready to go.
