14. HammerFall - Threshold
15. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime Pt. II

Overall, not a bad year. It started off very slow but since early September it kicked some ass. The first 10 albums in my list range from very good to great. The bottom five are ok overall but nothing special.

Personally, I'm surprised so few people have even mentioned the Agalloch disc.
Have you ever heard "The Earth is not a Cold, Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky? It sounds a lot like "Ashes" (or should I say, "Ashes" sounds like it) without the horrible vocals that accompany Agalloch CDs. "The Earth is not a Cold, Dead Place" is completely instrumental and highly recommended for anyone who has auditory function.

I actually have a friend whose made a pretty notable effort to expose me to Explosions in the Sky (and other post rock/metal) and I've enjoyed what I've heard for the most part. However, I've enjoyed The Rescue more than their full length albums that I have listened to.

I also gave Pelican a listen (The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw) but I didn't think it was nearly as strong an effort as Ashes Against the Grain, though that opinion might change with more listens.

I disliked Haughm's vocals in Agalloch at first, but they've grown on me. Admittedly he's not a stellar vocalist, but his approach/style feels like a decent fit for Agalloch's music (in most instances anyways).

How many CD's did any of you buy (released in 2006) that you have not listed? Is this really just a list of CD's bought that were released this year. How many people here actually bought discs that they expected to like and didn't? What discs were they?

Here's the list of CD's that I puchased released this year. I'm semi new to this kickass genre :kickass: so I have been trying to get my back catologue up to speed that's why the list isn't longer. Liked them all (usually I have a pretty good idea I will like a disc before I fork up the dough)......some more than others of course.

Pyramaze - The Legend Of The Bone Carver
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Steel Attack - Diabolic Symphony
To-Mera - Transcendental
Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
Cellador - Enter Deception
Into Eternity - The Scattering Of Ashes
Dark Empire - Distant Tides
Evergrey - MMA
Planet Alliance - Planet Alliance
Angra - Aurora Consurgens
Rhapsody - Triumph Or Agony
Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death

Disc's I plan on getting as soon as the budget allows....

Dragonland - Astronomy
Firewind - Allegiance
Divinefire - Into A New Dimension
Any I'm Missing?......

I'll probably think of more later but some that immediately come to mind (in no particular order)...

  • Communic - Waves of Visual Decay
  • Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth
  • Pyramaze - LotBC (though I like the debut better!) :heh:
  • Jon Oliva's Pain - Maniacal Renderings
  • Wuthering Heights - The Shadow Cabinet
  • Therion - Live in Mexico (from the Celebrators of Becoming DVD)

of those, I'd have to put Wuthering Heights above the rest. It has kicked my ass the absolute most! :worship:

I'll have more to open at Christmas, so I'll check back later.
