Top 12 Metal Amplifiers!?

Based on the UK price tags I'm going to guess that the list has a Euro slant to it. It may be why there's two H&Ks on the list while Bogner and Soldano are nowhere to be seen. I also noted that the Dual Rectifier is the most expensive amp on that list, being a few hundred pounds more than the Diezel VH-4.

My favorite from that list is the 5150-III with the 2203KK being a close second. I dunno, maybe I just like the Marshall sound. The JVM410H never impressed me, maybe I don't know how to dial it in.

Is there any notable albums that use the 2203KK? (Aside from any Slayer albums, I'll gladly live without hearing anymore Slayer after their 80s stuff)
I know there's been clips around here posted of them, but don't even remember if they sounded good or not.
Being based off a JCM800 2203, can't imagine they are bad studio amps though

Ola, since you've most likely played 90% of those, what do you think?

My list would be like this(based on my own testing and taste):

1 - Line 6 Spider III
2 - Mesa Dual Rectifier
3 - Mesa Mark V
4 - Dar Forza Quattro
5 - Fortin Natas
6 - EVH 5150 III
7 - Engl Savage
8 - Diezel VH4
9 - Framus Cobra
10 - Peavey 5150

Then again I've yet to try out the final Future Breed Machine product. Hopefully I get to test the prototype soon...

And I also left out the Roadsters and Roadking cause rectos already in there.
And JVM would probably end up #28 on my list.

The Soldano and Uberschall keep coming up as top metal amps but for the life of me I can't think of (m)any albums that I identify as using them. I've heard KSE for the former. I'm not saying that being used by artist X makes them good or bad...

Since the 'what gear on what album' is dominated by boogie and peavey, with Marshall and Krank having some presence as well, could someone cite some example bands/albums that use SLO, BOGNER, etc?

They aren't metal at all, but I know one of my favorite bands, Coheed and Cambria used the Uberschall for the lead tracks.... I think.

My favorite metal amp is Roland Micro Cube rectifier channel .... well out of all the metal amps I have access to currently.

The only SLO user in Metal I can think of is Matt Pike (High on Fire), although his tone is probably not what many other metal players would be interested in.

Hey guys since you bring it up im curious; what cab/speaker was popular with the JCM800? what was a good match?

I was pretty sure Ola would start the list with the line 6.. :) Funny how just through the internet you get to know people without even being directly in contact with them! cheers

That list sucks huge dicks with purple veins because I have recently bought a Savage and it is not in the list. You all are wrong, not me.

This is my list and dream amps.

1. V-amp 2 (modded)
2. Bugera Dickhead
3. Thundertron Superpower
4. Framus Marion Cobretti
5. Mesa Mark Knopfler

Even though the thread is old...

Meh, I don't like the JVM, my least favorite Marshall. The VH4 really isn't a "metal" amp either, it can do shred and metal leads, but it's not really a metal rhythm amp IMO, same with the H&K Triamp, the Switchblade, while a cool amp, doesn't belong on the "Top 12 Metal Amps" at all. We don't have Haydens over here, so I dunno about that amp; the 6505+ should be a 6505/5150, instead.

My list would look more like (more in order of value vs. tone, not necessarily best sounding amp first):

1 - Peavey 5150
2 - Mesa 2 Channel Dual/Triple Rectifier
3 - Diezel Herbert
4 - VHT Ultralead
5 - Engl SE
6 - Rivera K-Tre
7 - Orange Rockerverb 100 MKI
8 - Krank Rev+
9 - Framus Cobra
10 - Splawn Nitro KT-88

i don't agree with the list,i think that the peavey 6505 is the best one first of all for the amazing results and secondly with the great price.
i love the dual rectifier but comparing it with the 6505 i don't see a huge difference in quality, only in price.
cheers:)
