at Spiff's reply to Bev's exultant post!
I went to the old Wembley, but not for a concert. How's the new stadium?
Spiff secretly loved it, he's just too cool for school.
Well, had never been to the old one, so hard to compare. We had premium tickets so it was VIP all the way (ie. we didn't have to pass through the turnstiles with the unwashed masses
), were met by very pleasant and professional staff as we rode the escalators to our floor. We had wide padded seats and cupholders! Woo!
Mark thought the sound was shit - I was surprised at how good it was. I assumed it would be one massive bouncing echo, particularly as we were in the round(ish). Organization that we experienced was good and getting to the tube afterwards was easy peasy. As far as the size is concerned, I don't think it's actually any smaller than old Wembley, I just think when you see stadiums on telly they look bigger than they really are. It was a great atmosphere, and we weren't surrounded by pricks, which was a bonus because they always seem to hunt me down at gigs. It would have been nice to be on the pitch, but I wouldn't have seen a damn thing. I'm not that fussed about being covered in piss and sick either, to be honest.
uke: I loved it, and would happily see a band at Wembley again... though I'd prefer the posh seats, naturally.
Gorey - we've only been going to see them for a 3 years or so, but even in that amount of time I've seen them change. Wembley was a very natural next step for them, and I think they slayed it. They've become so much more assured on stage. It's interesting that they are featured in Classic Rock magazine this month; in the UK at least they really are thought of as rock royalty now. I get the impression it's not quite like that for them in the US though. I can't quite decide whether that's a good or bad thing.
