Actually the whole piercing/tatoo thing is very passé now. Maybe that's just here, but I'm sick of seeing people covered in metal, I think it looks way cooler these days when there's just a couple.

Tattoos aren't passe. They're just not fashionable anymore. Personally, I hated it when they were fashionable. It meant I couldn't get one because I'd look like I was getting one because it was trendy. Now they're not trendy anymore, I can get one again.
