....tremendous The Hunter (Mastodon album)

Today I have the Dry Bone Valley chorus playing over and over in my head - it is firmly stuck!

"I wish that I was still there - I want to keep on breathing"

The vocal melody is great and so is the riff behind it!

Every song on this album is amazing, except maybe Curl of the Burl. Stand-out tracks for me are Stargasm, Octopus Has No Friends, Dry Bone Valley, and Spectrelight. I've been listening to this album non-stop, I just love mastodon :D

Blasteroid kind of reminds me of some Devy material.

I dig it.

this song reminded me of a combination of torche, foo fighters and cave in. probably my favorite track on the album.

even though the album is great, it's probably their worst for me, but I love pretty much every mastodon album since remission.

I'd probably rank them

remission
blood mountain
crack the skye
leviathan
the hunter

I'm really digging the guitar solo on "The Sparrow" - it has a bit of a Pink Floyd feel with some great composition and feel. I also like the lead tone - you can just hear the tubes from the amp all heated up and producing that great sustain.....no supershred or tricky scales - just great music.

I hear an AIC influence on "Thickening" that I like too....having 3 guys that can sing really gives this cd a lot of variety and I'm still playing it every day without getting tired of it.

went to the Mastodon/Dillinger Escape Plan/Red Fang show tonight, and it was pretty fuckin unruly, with especially excellent sets from Red Fang and Mastodon. lots of stuff from the Hunter, Leviathan, and Blood Mountain, a few from Remission, and i think none from Crack the Skye? not sure, super baked and many beers this evening, best way to spend a wednesday!

dont miss this tour
