Triaxis preamp. Your opinion

I've yet to figure a gate into the fx loop...tried my NS-2, but it didn't work well for me at the time. It's definitely something in the gain stage, it only comes up when I use a distortion channel. Using just an NS-2 in front of it kills the guitar noise, but the amp hum is still there. I usually have to hit my clean channel when I'm not playing, otherwise it's annoying.

Finally I got the Triaxis, but after hours tweaking and trying my own tones, custom tones, artists tones... I haven't reached the famous Triaxis creamy and tight tone.

My PodXT Pro through the same poweramp (Peavey Classic 50/50) sounds tighter, heavier and cleaner.

I really dig the tone on ISoT, but not so much on Recreation Day, too scooped and thin IMO. Interesting to hear a 900 supplied those creamy lead tones, I wouldn't have guessed! (there must've been a fair amount of boosting going on, or it was a modded one)

I owned the Triaxis & 2:90 for years and it was a great high-gain metal rig but I never got a good clean out of it and sure as heck no great bluesy/country tones. It took me months to figure out all the intricacies. I figure the lack of ability to get what I wanted out of it was just me. Plenty of more talented players than I seem to get much more out of it. I was very fond of the orange modes on LD1 and LD2. LD2 Red was just SOOOO much gain.

FWIW - As the manual states, the 'tone' controls behave differently in some modes than others. The serial FX loop sucked.

I bought mine after seeing John Petrucci with Dream Theater on the Awake tour and then seeing James Murphy with Testament on the Low tour. Couldn't have a much better product endorsement than those two.

I'm a VHT guy now. Turns out I'm not a scooped mids guy as I was back in the day. I also realized that despite my own deep seated denial, I AM an EL-34/EL-84 guy. Ah, hindsight...

I thought I'd read that somewhere; a mackie power amp, and a triaxis. I really like the sound on that album, if it's true that that is what Aaron used, I'd consider giving the triaxis a go.

Yeah, you're right it was 5150 and Triaxis I remember, but I don't really dig that rythym tone.
