Tricks to getting Beefy/thick sound?

Ok.. let me get this correctly.
I record two tracks and on one track i slide the pan bar all the way to the right
and the other track all the way to the left on the pan bar?
and try to get the volume levels the same/equal?

is it recommended to use different amps/mics etc?

This is just a matter of taste. Personally, I don't like to change the sound because it just sounds lopsided to me, but no doubt there are other people on the forum who DO like to change the sound.

Actually, when I like to do quad tracking or even more, I will change the head, cab and usually the mic. Seems unnecessary but you get more varied tones and gives you a greater final product when mixed all together, imo.


But, I never go too over the top. If I'm recording multiple takes of the same thing, I'll mainly just change the mic position (IE from edge, to 45 angle/cone to far/etc)
