If you think you need to change your tubes, and the tubes are not less than 6 months old, then you should probably change them.

I'm running JJ 6L6 in the power section of mine, EH12AX7 in the preamps, and a TungSol balanced 12AX7 something or other in the phase inverter slot. (If you are facing the tubes from the rear of the amp, that would be the tube to your furthermost left, this is referred to on diagrams as V4)

For reference, this is after my last retube: http://462studio.com/gear_test.mp3

thanksyou all... lol due to low budget the tubes in there have been stock tubes and have been in there for about 18 months :S so i think in that case it is to be a definate replacement... what would you say he best quality tubes where? after a wide but nice and tight sound sort of the tightness of the guitars on ascendancy with the largeness of the blackening or is this irrelevant to the tone dynamics?

Winged C power tubes and just about anything but JJ in the preamp. I once tried an assortment of JJ tubes in my 6505+ preamp and it sounded like someone put a mattress in front of the speaker. I'm actually quite happy with EH 12AX7's right now.
