i know that this plug its one of the most used for bass guitars. i don´t have the card but i have the complete waves pack.

its the waves cla 2a similar?

how i can use it in a bass drum track?

I don't think I'd put an opto-based comp on a kick drum unless it really needs leveling. Use an 1176 style for drums, they catch peaks faster.

Those two plugins are going to be a little different from each other. They were modeled after different gear. The waves after CLA's specifically.

Opto's can be fine on drums if you like the sound. And I dunno about hating on the 1176... you know it has adjustable attack and release? It's still too fast for you on the slowest attack time?

Also gotta love it when guys who've obviously toiled hard engineering and saved up the many thousands of dollars it takes to buy the Waves complete pack can't figure out how to use an LA-2A on a kick...

I own both the UAD LA-2A and the Waves CLA version. Both sound really good although I prefer the UAD. Great for bass guitar and room mics.

LA2A on rooms, huh? I haven't thought of that, or seen that done before. Thoughts on it?

if I'm right the slowest attack of the 1176 is less than a ms (it's in microseconds), so even if you can adjust it, for some people and use, it's not enough. If you wanna keep the attack untouched, like let's say with the SSL bus comp that allows for several ms of attack before kicking in, it's not the right tool. That's probably what jeff was refering to. (then again i said "if i'm right" i don't have the figures in my head)

To answer the OP... well just try it and see yourself ? Does it sound good ? Done !

If you search long enough, you will read people saying all combinations possible, proving that there is no rule regarding the choice of a compressor eventhough some rough guide lines exist.

^^^^ Just looked it up. The attack time of the 1176 is .02-.8 milliseconds, which IS pretty darn quick. The ssl Bus Comp goes up to 30 ms... Wow I didn't know the 1176 was quite that fast at the slowest setting...
