Well I'm sure Nebula would slay them both, but it's a matter of convenience these days. I highly doubt either emulation will sound anything like the real deal, so it's more about whichever gets your jollies on. The digital EQ thread in the main forum is kind of illuminating.

There is a big thread on Gearslutz right now where Waves, UAD and the Duende are being compared. So far the consensus is that the UAD is pretty nice.

The channel strip seems to be usable only by the people who own UAD-2 Quads.

2 stereo instances on a UAD-1, 8 on a UAD-2 Solo.

Is UAD really worthy? There are so many, solo, dual, quad, etc... Is it just the hardware then you buy additional plugins?

They are plugins that emulate Solid State Logic analog gear.... Chances are you've heard SSL equipment on a lot of the music you listen too. The waves SSL stuff has pretty much been the standard, but now UAD has come out with some....

Yes, I have a single UAD-1 card and am thinking about getting another.... The standard plugs are pretty useful, and the ram I free up for other things is a very nice treat.

Pretty much you buy a card(or cards), it comes with a bunch of plugins, and then you can purchase more and add them to your license. They have a ton of good ones, but they are pricey...

Maybe. I've heard from a few sources that UAD plugs don't model saturation/distortion characteristics although I'm sure they sound excellent regardless of that if it's true.

I saw a couple of vids and it's pretty interesting, are the default plugs good/useful? Are the cards PCI-e or regular PCI? thx!

There are old normal pci cards and newer pci-e cards as well.
The new uad-2 is pci-e only.
