Uberschall vs. Invader

Bump! Has anyone compared the uber en invader one on one? My big question: how does the distortion of the invader compare to the uber!?

the uberschall... you'll love it or hate it.

I think its one of the most badass amps around. But that is because I like its character... BTW I don't own one but I like everything I've heard recorded with it.

When I tried an Invader 150 it was all just muddy sludge. Tried out all the channels, high gain, lo gain, master A, master B etc. With two different guitars (Loomis Signature & C1 Classic). I didn't get a chance to crank it too loud so I wonder if perhaps that was a factor too? I couldn't get any definition out of the gain channels. Would work great with generic death metal, grindcore, or that kind of stuff, but couldn't find anything for me.

I always remember that the guys over at rocksolidamps (official US Engl distributors) reckon that the Invader is the one Engl that doesn't sound too hot at low volumes, it needs cranking. Plus don't go for the 150, the 100 has a much better rap.

That is pretty weird, since muddy sludge is in my opinion, totally the opposite of what the Invader does. It is a very tight sounding amp, not overly compressed, but it responds to the picking very, very well! Note articualtion is top notch, even the fastest licks came out with great precision.

I have had owned a Peavey 6505, I still own a Triple Recto and the Invader, and the Invader is by far the tightest sounding of the three.

I do have the Invader 100 though. People have claimed that the 150 sounds different, that I don't know, but one thing I know why I prefer the 100, is the fact that the bright mode can be used on all channels, whereas on the 150 it only works for channels 1 and 2. It sounds very good even without the bright mode though, so it shouldn't sound like a muddy sludge even without the bright mode.

But well, some people like the mothers and some like the daughters :goggly:

Ik love de Uber's raw agressive sound, and I don't think a bit of sag is a bad thing. I'm just wandering, how close could the Invader come to this kind of sound?

A Engl Powerball for instance is way too thigt and HiFi sounding for my taste. How raw and fat can the sound of an Invader get? If it's similar enough to the Uber, I could prefer the Invader... (i think) since you get al lot more flexebility for the same money.

Can someone help me oud of this pain? ;)

PS. I own a 5150 right now, so that could be used as a refference, I like te sound, but would like a massive growl in the lowend

One thing about the Invader - IMO it's the sexiest of all Engl's (black face panel/chrome chassis oooooohhh yeah)

I am not fan of the Poweball either, but I love the Invader! The Invader is more organic, not as compressed, and voiced differently than the Powerball.

It still is a very responsive amp, like I mentioned, even the most technical riffs came out crystal clear. I use a 7-string most of the time, and it handles low tunings perfectly! And there is a lot of low end on tap with this amp, a very tight low end I must say. Of course it depends on the channel and mode too!

It's pretty hard to compare the Invader an the 5150, because the Invader has a lot of tonal variations available, but I can tell you this, I sold my 6505 to get the Invader.

If the Powerball and Invader are anything like my Fireball, pickup choice makes a HUGE difference. I can get the FB to sound very organic and thick without being djenty (using my Nailbomb) or it can get very tight and sterile with EMG's. I've even been able to get big, open Doom-esque sounds using a Telecaster. It may be worth trying both amps with a couple of different guitars.

The village of Invader in the city of Engl contains NO MUD.

Honestly, I tried an Invader 150 and hated it. Few weeks later, me and a friend of mine end up back in the same shop. For a giggle, I say we plug into the Invader to see how Engl are way over charging for a head that sounds as shit as this one did. Put it through a Marshall Vintage/Modern cab, played it and hated it again. BUT, when both volumes get to 10 o'clock and above ALL HELL breaks loose.

What I'm trying to say is if you hate the Invader, just turn it up some more ;)
