Ultimate Album Side-80's Pop Music

I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this one, as there were a lot of 80s bands that I would consider more “rock” than “pop” – Heart, Styx, Foreigner, Journey, etc. – although they did manage to have some success on pop radio in the 1980s. So mine is a mix of both…

Side A:

Journey – Send Her My Love
Dead or Alive – You Spin me Round (Like a Record)
Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Relax
Dire Straits – Money for Nothing
Styx – The Best of Times
REO Speedwagon – Keep on Lovin’ You

And a Side B…

Foreigner – Juke Box Hero
Duran Duran – Save a Prayer
Heart – How Can I Refuse?
Asia – Here Comes the Feeling
Irene Cara – Fame
Yes – Owner of a Lonely Heart

Side A
Journey - Girl Can't Help It
The Outfield - Since You've Been Gone
Lone Justice - Sweet Sweet Baby (I'm Falling)
Saga - On The Loose
Cheap Trick - Tonight It's You
The Tubes - Talk To Ya Later

Side B
Tony Carey - I Won't Be Home Tonight
The Alarm - Rain In The Summertime
Simple Minds - Sanctifiy Yourself
Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands
Alan Parsans Project - Prime Time
GTR - When The Heart Rules The Mind

Has there been a goth rock poll yet? That would be an excellent one to do!

Album 2

Side 1
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
New Order - True Faith
Lone Justice - Reflected (By My Side)
Nena Cherry - Manchild
Fine Young Cannibals - Johnny Come Home

Side 2
Howard Jones - Everlasting Love
Replacements - I'll Be You
Smithereens - Girl Like You
Inxs - The One Thing
Tony Carey - Fine Fine Day
Simple Minds - Alive And Kicking

IMO, 80s pop was way better than the "pop" drivel being played today.

I can't thank Venom GA enough for this thread! It really made me look back on my high school days first of all. Second of all, I rediscovered THE OUTFIELD. Damn, they are fantastic! I always liked them, but never seemed to get around to buying their stuff. I recall many times in way-back-when I had a cassette tape in my hand to buy and then I'd find something else. I checked youtube for their videos the day I posted my six songs on here and I haven't been able to not watch them since. Now, I have my four year old daughter harrassing me constantly to watch THE OUTFIELD videos. Especially, "Your Love", which is also my personal fave by them. My little girl knows the fucking words to this song already! She loves it! Now, I'm trying to buy their stuff, but only the first album, Play Deep, out of the first three albums is still in print. I prefer not to buy used. If anyone knows where I can buy Bangin' and Voices of Babylon new and sealed, I'd be eternally grateful. I've tried, ebay, half dot com, and Amazon without success.

I do my best!!

I do not need to "make" an album side, there is one done for me already:
Elvis Costello, Blood and Chocolate side one on Vynil. Hands down best of the 80's for me. It is too bad on the CD they rearranged the songs, as the vynil version had a much better flow:

Battered Old Bird
Home Is Anywhere You Hang Your Head
Poor Napoleon
Blue Chair
Crimes of Paris

Next Time Round:
As I stepped out upon the landing my heart was already down the stairs
She's in the bedroom with that boy of hers
Though her face is creased and her eyes seem strange

There's a second-hand emotion on battered forty-five
My tears were never enough to keep that girl alive
Now she seems contrite will she make the change

Chorus: The next time 'round
The next time 'round
You'll be someone else's baby
But I'll be underground
The Next Time 'Round

Then you took two steps forward and then one step on your back
Now it's a future for me and you that I lack
You'll be the one who'll stands out in the dark
Even when you're all dressed in black

Chorus

You've got something I want now
And I've got someting I can't hide
I've got too much love for you now
Have you got too much pride

Sometimes I name and number all the things you gave to me
Your elastic love, this velvet-line purgatory
You used to take the breath out of me
Now I think you'll be the death of me

Chorus

You'll be in some sputnik baby
But I'll be underground

The Next Time 'Round

I don't need the cd (I have a good turntable and use it often) but if I did, I would burn it with the songs in proper order.

Or maybe I will just hook up the turntable and put the record directly to cd. Heavan knows I have been talking about doing that long enough.

Second, would be side two of The Vapours album MAGNETS (NOT the one with "Turning Japanese" don't even get me started on them having only done only ONE pop song and that song makes them fairly famous...)

Side 1

Lords Of The New Church - Open Your Eyes (Long Live STIV!!)
Oingo Boingo - Just Another Day
The Church - Under The Milky Way Tonight
Depeche Mode - Stripped
Psychadelic Furs - Into You Like A Train
The Smiths - Big Mouth Strikes Again

Side 2

King Crimson - Elephant Talk
Tears For Fears - Mad World
Thomas Dolby - One of Our Submarines
Sparks - Angst In My Pants
Duran Duran - Save A Prayer
Jim Carrol - People Who Died

I'll give this a shot. It's actually kind of hard, because a lot of what I think of for 80s is still rock, not pop. It's actually kind of tough...

I don't know if it's the ultimate, but I tried to put some on here that I hadn't seen yet.

Side A:
Alphaville - Forever Young
Erasure - A Little Respect
Frida - I Know There's Something Going On
Gary Numan - Cars
Peter Schilling - Major Tom
Rockpile - Teacher Teacher

Side B:
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
Yaz - Don't Go
The Hooters - Satellite
Talk Talk - Talk Talk
Modern English - I Melt With You
David Bowie - Cat People

Fun reading some of the others though, brings back a lot of memories.
