about two days ago, someone deemed the spam to be too much and request it be closed. i was a regular in that forum, and while it was a spam ridden shit hole for the most part; the threads worth reading, were of the best quality you'll see anywhere on um. but it appears as though mark may be making us a new sanctuary, of course this time it will be moderated.

I'm guessing it might have been the higher management at Koch/MFN...I wouldn't blame the band for diassociating themselves with the spam that went on there, though the board was never completely without quality discussion (which usually ended up either going off-topic or rapidly losing any semblance of intelligence anyway).

Like I said, I can see a lot of reasons for it with varying degrees of legitimacy--too much Opeth-hating going on in their own forum, wanton porn pics being posted, Akerfeldt getting molested by a guy named Chat and becoming traumatized whenever he saw the word--but I don't see any of those reasons (or any others) put forth. None.

I would imagine Mark gave all the reasons he himself had - the band pay for the board, so if they ask for it to be removed he'd do it without asking too many questions. Like you say there are many legitimate reasons.. That's all a guess tho, I can't say I've heard anything more about the situation than you have

right, well, what i'm wondering is, i guess, reasons from the band or "opeth.com", more than from you guys. if all you got was a one-line email that says "remove the board" with no explanation, i guess your answers would be as speculative as my Chat-molestation theory.

how can a board develop any sense of community if you restrict comments to only the band and its performances? you can't get a sense of what other posters are like personally if you don't allow some degree of freedom.
