OK heres my report on last night in Glasgow.
Lets start with the bad. Missed Thine Eyes and Bodom so cant say anything about them. Was outside freezin my b*****s off handing out the flyers. Didnt mind handing them out, just hate the wind tunnel you get outside the SECC. (from now on called the SHED if youve been there you understand)
Saw the last few songs from LAMB OF GOD and gotta say despite the shit sound in the SHED, I was very impresed. Some good songs, and a lot of energy. Drummer kept bustin his kit he was so into the gig. Will be lookin for them to come back soon.
IN FLAMES next, despite not having Jesper with them, were amazing (whatevers wrong, I hope he gets it all sorted out for the best) . First time i've seen the light show properly, and I'm still blinded. Also the first time I've ever seen some stage lights get a cheer. If you've seen the intro you know what I'm talking about, If not, I'm not gonna spoil it for you. Yet again the only problem with there set was the sound in the SHED. If you havent seen them yet, make sure you make it to there next gig in a town near you.
Then the godfathers of the speed metal world SLAYER. What can I say, a complete musical onslaught from start to finish. Every song building on the last till you are in complete Slayer overload. Loved the video backdrops to each song, nice touch and did add a new dimension to the songs. The speaker stacks looked fantastic, and a drumriser which you could see from anywhere in the hall. At last you could see Lombardo as well as feel him.
I will admit that this isnt the best I have seen them, but not sure if that was down to the band or, yet again, the sound in the SHED. All the clasics you expect were there, and the new ones fitted in well. The new stuff realy needs to be heard live to realy apreciate it. That said they still proved why they are the best at what they do, and do it so well.
Bit of a dodgy start, but came good in the end is the best way I can put it.
So overall one hell of a great night, only spoiled by the venue. Every band I see in there has the same problem, but there's nowhere else around Glasgow big enough to hold this kinda gig unless they go outdoors.
