Update ToxicGrindMachine

The voice is simply too clean. It needs more grit and "rasp" ... what Melissa Cross would name "Fry" in her 2nd video. And DSS3 is right when he says that the voice lacks low frequency power.

I tend to scream like that, too and I noticed on my new record that when I purposely try to pitch my screams lower, I gain a lot of bottom end and it sounds really heavy.

Also a simple fix: insert Cubase Quadrafuzz Distortion on the "Tightener" preset. Then roll of highs a lot.

That's what i was thinking as well... mixing it up is never a bad thing.

Thanks for the tips Smy!

You're welcome. :)

To clarify something: by saying "purposely pitch my screams lower" I mean while I am singing, I choose a lower pitch. I didn't mean I use a pitch shifting algorithm later ...

I just reread my post and thought that might have been worded confusingly.

I agree with Mr Strain, these vocals remind me of Dimmu and I think these kind of vocals fit very well. The only thing is that the intensity is varying.. Sorry can´t find any other word, but a bit more "grit" or "agression". IMHO, I wouldn´t have deep deep growling unless it is to accentuate certain parts.

Just my 2 cents

While i'm "dwarfing" here on the vocals, i see the points you guys make.

Just recorded Demise and however i like it, I can see a lot of people will hate the vocals while they love the music.

There is no ego-thing, so i'm willing to hand over the mike to a better singer. (I have my own band to wank on) Bob's songs are too good to waste on bad vocals.:waah:

I'm glad my Diezel VH4 will be on this record, cause it's so damn raw. It will make the music even more brutal. But vocals are 50% of the sound, if not more.

Having said that, i know the contrast between the music and the vocals will be too much for a lot of people.

I would like people over here to make suggestions who would be great on TGM. Who would fit in the music and would be willing to record their vocals?

okay... what would you guys suggest to get more power out of it? i compressed it pretty hard allready.

Just get more agressive screams from the man, not the tools. The more pressure you get out, the better. I would say either scream so that it hurts, or grunt so that you cant speak for the next few hours (to days if your voice is not used to that kind of stuff). You know, emotion? Its the only way I've been able to squeeze from the singers I've tracked.

WTF!?! You are seriously suggesting someone screams/grunts so that they injure their vocal chords? That's the most amateur thing I've ever heard touted as advice.

Please, please stop pushing your artists like this. If they can't do it whilst recording without messing up their voice what will a 30 date tour do to them?

Absolutely true. There is no reason to fuck up your voice.
