So fellas,

My wife is needing a computer so she can write her papers and stuff (she's a teacher, school coordinator, is getting her master degree soon, and is going to have her 3rd paper published in about one month), and a buddy came up selling his Mac, with a 17 inch LCD monitor and an Apple mouse for around $350 (remember I live in Brazil, so things cost a little more). The thing is a 2007 model, with a Intel Core Duo processor and 512mb of ram. I have a 2009 13 inch MBP with a Core 2 Duo and it is OK for writing, web surfing and stuff, but for anything heavier it sucks (well, I can do some tracking with it, but when things come close to 40+ tracks, it starts to choke)...so I expect something not so far performance-wise from it. Do you think I should go for this Mac Mini ?

She wants a VERY small computer, so another option would be building a mini-itx PC, which would go for about the same price, but w/o monitor. I could build with this money a I3 with 2 Gb of Ram and 320gb hard disk.

What do you think?
