Vanishing Point gig?

stopping performing as TM but the members are staying together, reforming under a different name.
see there forum for details. :)

Well, as much as it looks like that's the case, they didn't actually say that at all.

The press release (for those of you who haven't seen it) is:

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but we have come to a decision not to continue on as Transcending Mortality. While the 4 of us have no set plans for the future, we will hopefully continue to work on new material – and I’m sure something good will come of this.

Of course this means that our set at Metalevilution’s 5th birthday on August 23rd at Sydney’s Manning Bar will be our last ever - it will be the last time anyone will hear any of these songs live (plus we plan to throw in a couple of surprises…) so be there, and help us to give them the send off they deserve! Also, as some of you will be aware we are midway through the recording of an E.p. which as it turns out will be the final Transcending Mortality release; so we will be doing all we can to ensure the end result is something that exceeds everyone’s expectations.

Sincere thanks to everyone for their support over the last 4 years… no doubt we’ll see you all around sometime soon!

It was everyone else in the thread that was speculating about it being the same band under a new name.

But yes, having said that, it's very likely that'll be the case and I'm sure they'll announce something officially either way when they're ready.

A change in style seems to be the only thing that makes sense to me after having read that. They want to stay together as a band, and only have positive things to say about their material and up coming EP, yet don't want to play those songs ever again, or use that name. Odd.

Yeah, pretty much since they moved to a more melodic doom kind of direction (which, while radically different to their older stuff, is actually really good), they wanted to focus on that but they still had a very vocal fanbase who kept requesting the older material. They tried to do a set with only new stuff and it went down poorly with their old crowd and then they tried to do a mix of stuff to keep everyone happy, but I think they must have gotten a little frustrated with the compromise.

I do agree with everyone here, it does look very much like they're just changing their name so they can play their new material with a fresh slate, but until they actually come out and say as much, it's kind of very much speculation on our part, as much as it does make sense as to what they're doing and what was implied in the press release. I'm sure someone from the TM camp will give a definitive answer either way as soon as they're ready to go public with it. :)

Ah, and there it is:

Shane from TM said:
I thought i should probably clear some things up as our statement was purposefully vague.

The four of us are definitely going to continue on under a different name and in a different style. We've all moved on from the Power Metal style and we all needed a change. It really is a completely different band now and we felt we needed a new name to compliment that. We'll be making more of an official announcement about the new band name and our plans soon.

hah hah Timmae , you funny fucken :p

I'm not Chris; I'm just an actor who plays Chris on TV, but I think I can answer part of that. :)

The VP lads will be up here on August 23 at the Manning Bar. Not sure if you're into Transcending Mortality, but they're one of the supporting bands and it'll be their last ever gig too, so it'll be a huge night!

yeah man its on and we cant wait to get back to Sydney , been a bit long between drinks heh heh :)
Anyways we will probably be doing songs like Embodiment , Ashen Sky , Closer Apart , Bring On The Rain etc , should be a good night .
I'm kinda bummed to hear about Trancending Mortality though , I wish them well , but gotta say years ago when they supported us they kicked arse.

Hey Chris,

At the start if the year you were saying maybe August/September for a Sydney show or 2

Any word on that?

Any idea of a setlist if it's true?

Season of Sundays has been on the setlist since Embrace was released - which is good, it's a great song live. Bring the Rain better be played, that song is a killer live. Other requests:
* something from In Thought!!!
* Embraced (that'd be interesting)
* CLOSER APART!!! WOO!

Hmm, well TM are on at 9.45, so VP will prob be what, 10:45 - 11 start? I don't know how long TM are playing for....
