Hey Andy,

when you trigger kicks, do you set the overall velocity to the very same level (every hit has equal power) or do you let the velocity changes according to the drummer's playing ? In other words, are the triggered kick's levels all the same ?

Thank you for the information.

hi,

i use the trigger with equal power (velocity 110 in exs 24)
and mix it with the original bass drum, so that you have the dynamic from the drummer and the punch from the sample. but the trigger must be quite good in time, sometimes i have to correct it.in very atmospheric clean parts or something that is meant to be quiet, i just use the original bd.

that's what i do!
Please tell me if you guys do it in a different way!

bye

Hi everybody ! First post here !

I'd say you could set the same velocity if you mix the sample with the natural sound. As Alexrookie said, you keep the dynamics of the drummer with the constancy of the sample.
If you're gonna keep only the sample (which I tend to do with bass drums, or I use two different samples), you may want to make the velocity follow the dynamics of the playing (drumagog allows you that), except if your drummer is not consistant in his bass drum playing ! Anyway, I guess a compressor might fix it.

Drumagog and sound replacer will both allow you to use a % of the original velocity so it effectively narrows the range w/o eliminating it, which can make hits more consistant and still allows the benifit of multiple samples.
