Venom

Yet he knows a bunch of punk bands. God you fucking people. You of all people Erik. I love Quorthon as much as you but it's more than obvious that he's spun a couple Venom albums during the Bathory writing sessions.

They're bound to play the vast majority of the time from the first three albums and the new album, since they're trying to recapture the early Venom aesthetic.

What sounds better, if you invent a genre or expand it. It's so much better to be the father of then genre with no influences than just a continuing porponent.

I can't stand it when people have this mindset. Invent a genre, expand a genre, who gives a shit? If the music is something you like, does it really matter who came first or who copied who? Everything in music has been done, and there were probably guys tapping out guitar solos in garages long before Eddie Van Halen made it famous on a record. The "pioneers" of different genres are no better or worse than those who take it that extra step into something slightly different.

you have to realize that living in SWEDEN in 1982-ish -- and to put shit into perspective here, there were VERY FEW swedish heavy metal bands around in 1982 and certainly there would be no real extreme metal bands until bathory popped up -- it is by no means unimaginable that your average metalhead had NOT heard of venom. motörhead, maiden, priest YES but venom? probably very underground back then.
Yeah, I read an interview with Quorthon once where he said it was hard to get a drummer because everyone was into stuff like Europe, not the extreme shit he was doing.

this has turned into a thread about Bathory :P

Anyway, who has seen Venom live before? Were they satisfying? What sort of range of their material did they play?
Not Live but I've watched the Seven Dates of Hell video more times than I care to think. I still love that video to death! Maybe they'll tour Australia one day:grin:

Oh and TaylorC makes a good point!
But I've always found it hard to believe that Quorthorn never heard of Venom.

BTW Geographical location makes no difference - back in the day of Venom, Cronos n' crew were all the fucking rage influencing everyone around the globe. The fact that Sweden had more melodic bands back then means nothing, other than the fact the Swedes are more inclined to writing melodies. Cue Gothenburg...

Quorthon loved himself some Venom and because of that he wrote Bathory. You know it, so shut up.
