they are black metal. they didnt just coin the term but they played black metal. when i listen to mayhem's deathcrush its a lot like venom. when i hear burzum's war you cant tell me that it doesent sound like venom. sure black metal now and early black metal is not that very different and ill admit some venom songs arent black metal. venom is black metal. listen to these songs

For me Black Metal was Venom's high point, Welcome to Hell was good also but not as (un)godly. At War With Satan really does my head in, I just can't listen to Cronos barking on about killing angels and stuff for 20 mins straight!
