Very Unofficial Top 20 Rock Bands

Yeah, you got that right. The one thing I do like about them is that they almost never fail to spark a little discussion. :)

Right on! ;)

What forums we'll do without the numbnuts to feed us?

And that poll worth nothing without B.O.C and Alice Cooper.

I'm not crazy about KISS but they do deserve to be on the list thats for sure... shoot Hendrix & Joplin deserve to be on that list more then PJ.. though i guess they aren't on it because they are considered solo acts and not bands?

If that was the case Elvis would certainly be in there as well.

I think Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles should have been higher. I wouldn't want to try and make my own list, but The Eagles would be in the top three for sure. They were the ultimate supergroup.

I didn't noticed before. How come they have Fleetwood Mac in there if they're a British band by inception? And as it's now is 50 % US/England.

BTW, I didn't see Grand Funk in that poll...

Well true... Elvis might deserve to be on there.. but the only beef i have with the little fat guy in jumpsuits is he never seemed to write his own songs or if he did none of them were hits.. only the songs of others that he sang were hits...

haha.....dont you just love how that dumbass who emailed in about Metallica said that they practically created metal......oh yeah, THAT makes sense, seeing as they came into the scene about 12-13 years after the first metal bands........just goes to show how fucking ignorant the masses are :Smug:

Metallica changed metal the most I think, like you can put up a front but everyone that listens to metal like metallica at one time

Just because you like METAL doesnt mean you HAD to like metallica at some point thats rediculous ... granted I used to LOVE metallica doesnt mean everybody did. Get your head out of your ass

Metallica are a bunch of fucking sellout posers. They were cool once, very cool .... but that is gone. Anyone want this drumstick i got during "Master of Puppets" tour? It makes me nauseous knowing that Lars is doing work for fucking VH-1 now........ :Puke:

Although you're right JD, you would have been hard pressed to find anybody that loved metal (Not hair bands) in 1987 that didn't like Metallica. I don't think I remember one person saying "they suck" or "I don't like them" back then. Everybody did seem to like, if not love that band back then.

Yeah but that was 18 years ago... Hell I didnt even know who Metallica was in 1987 Granted they were and kinda in a way are the biggest most popular Metal band ever But saying Everybody HAD to like them is just wrong ... that was my point its like Saying because I am a Metal I had to like Zepplin or I had to like Black Sabbath which I am not a fan of either or even saying I Have to be a fan of Bruce era Maiden Which I'm not particularly ... and shit There can be kids that were born in 1990 that could possibly love Metal and completely hate Metallica .... I know you know what I mean so sorry about over explaining the point

I was into metal by 1983, but I didn't get into Metallica until 1992. As a matter of fact I didn't like thrash until 1992, I was exclusively into classic metal. So JD's view applies to me at least  (of course I was a freak in 1986 for liking metal but not Metallica :tickled: ).

That's my point!!! You both liked them at some point. Take away what they have done recently and I think you get the same answer from almost (not 100%) everybody. They were the kings of the underground, no video, no airplay, but they still were the kings. I still stand by my statement...in 1987 or so I could not find a metal-head that did not like Metallica. I was 17 at the time in south suburban Chicago so maybe it was different where you all were, but I really can't think of anybody I hung out with that didn't like them.

It's all good! I am just giving my perspective! :Spin:

You Know I respect your Opinion right!?! cause I do greatly! but I just dont think Liking Metallica is a prerequiset(sp) to being a metalhead If I never Liked them would I be less of a Metal Head ... though granted you have the age advantage on me there ... and Lived in a much MUCH larger area than I ... tho I never said I personally never liked em I was just saying there was probably ppl that Liked metal in the 1980's that didnt like Metallica ... hahaha Guess we cant agree on everything  no worries tho I still think Savaron is the coolest!

Yes I understand your view, but I begun to like them when they already were out! I bought the four albums and then stopped right there in the wake of "Metallica".

In anycase I believe JD's posture is valid, there has to be at least one true metalhead who never got into Metallica. There are people here who never got into Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, I don't think that inavlid them as metalheads.

My $0,03 opinion.

Never a prerequiset(sp). I don't know how to fucking spell it either and I'm to lazy to look it up. It's all good, and I'm not saying everybody has to like them at some point. I am only going by the enviroment of metal I was brought up in!

Anyway, you know i am open minded about this stuff!!! You have seen some of the bands I listen to!

Yep I understand that! for me my Best example is my Best friend Jesse ... I remember back when aka early 90's I was huge into Metallica but jesse didnt and to this day never has liked Metallica

I know! thats why you fit in on this board perfectly! I try to be as open minded as possible myself

Metallica's career ended for me when "The Black Album" came out. They shortened their songs to conform to radio, etc... Now, I just can't listen to anything after "Justice"......

JonnyD ... Master of Puppets is one of the greatest metal records ever, i agree. I saw them twice on that tour, but the memory is soured a bit because of how they are now. No one could fill Cliff Burton's shoes, not Jason Newsted, not Steve Harris (he's amazing with Maiden, but I dont think he would do what Cliff did with Metallica), not no one.

That would be me -- on both accounts. I like them both enough that if their songs came on the radio I wouldn't change the station but I only own a coupla Maiden discs and no JP. I'm not all that big on the NWOBHM. I probably have more Saxon than any of the others.
