Video interview Mikael

Okay so my first impression was that Mike shouldn't have shared information that personal with the public. But Mr. Sam's posts imply that there's something we don't see, e.g. maybe Peter wanted Mike to share this info (who knows, conclusion: we don't know). We just have to keep a few things in mind..

1) It's an interview. It's spontaneous and perhaps Mike didn't plan to go down that path. After you take that first step though (perhaps without realising it), it's hard to stop. Mike may have let something slip that he regretted, and kept talking trying to erase a negative notion about Peter that he expressed.

2) With Peter's loss, there was a lot of sadness. Mike's proud of the new album and I'm sure many have approached him and stated that 'the band isn't the same without Peter's input.. Fred is blah'. Mike loves the band deeply and perhaps this was his way of expressing, hey we're still here and you don't know shit.

3) When expressing regret, you sometimes put people down without noticing it because you're so consumed by your own insecurities.

Conclusion: Accept the interview, don't let it change your opinion of past albums, because the BAND still worked their asses off to produce such quality. And in some cases it may have been HARDER for Peter to stay in a band where he feels he lacks contribution. And finally, perhaps having a key songwriter and 'follower' (exaggerating here) is exactly what made Opeth so brilliant on past albums.

I also think he shouldn't have made all of this public, even though i have to admit it was interesting. The interviewer cought him on the wrong foot. But i don't see a point in interpret so much into this as an outsider.

Let's just be happy Mikael is a musician and not a diplomat.

great interview!

i felt like i was watching parts of "somekind of monster" .
and it is really hard to tell people that you dont like there stuff, but you do have to do so otherwise youll end up with a lot of unsadisfied persons.

I'm somewhat confused what role Peter actually had in the writing process and studio. We know he co-wrote on Orchid and Morningrise but for the following albums such as My Arms, Still Life and Blackwater did he write any of the harmonizing melodies that are so frequent or would Mike compose a riff and then write another layer over top of it. And did he any of the sustain lead note kind of stuff that is quite frequent on Still Life or was that Mike as well. And obviously, he wrote his solos.. I'm just curious how much of an impact he had on the band, because he seemed to have a signature sound in his playing.

What was the link? I was at work and didn't dare click.

Lucky man :D

It was Last Measure. It opens up every internet shock pic (goatse, tubgirl etc) at once and moves them around the screen, is impossible to close (on a PC, anyway), sends random emails from your address book and random messages from your IM client, and screams "I AM LOOKING AT GAY PORN" very loud out of your speakers. For obvious reasons, I'm not going to actually link it ;)

^ Holy Shit! There exists such a link? Rofl!

No surprise he was banned by the owner. Hahahaaaa. It's funny really, but obviously, not something to be done on a forum.

LOL, damn :zombie:. I knew his little visit here would be short lived.

hi people, one thing i would like to say about mikael being so open about peter leaving, is that he said in the interview that peter also commented on his departure in swedish media.

interesting. did mikael say what peter had to say about the situation?

Just translated it to russian, watched it all again... great interview!

At the beginning Mike looks like some arrogant bastard, a big star or something. And later on he starts to look much more pretty and down-to-earth. Love that he's opened his heart in this interview. This part in the end about guys didn't compliment him 'bout "Ghost Reveries" was just... fuck, I felt so sorry for him!
