Vikings

it's all a melting pot you know, I don't think I know anyone or friends that are 100% swedish/danish/german whatever. take me for example ive got both belgian and irish in my blood.

i'd say the people who are most proud of their heritage are those who aren't allowed to celebrate it or are occupied by another nation: basque land, wales, scotland, northern ireland.

in a more sane world no one would have to be proud of their heritage. it would simply be naturall to live it in every days live. you haven't accomplished anything to be born into this heritage. but it's up to you whether future generations can still enjoy it. because if the people native to their heritage don'T live it, who should?

@patric: belgian and irish? quite nordic still! remember the vikings founded dublin! and belgar is one fierce viking, ain't he? :D

Mh.......I think you didn't got the point. Perhaps this is my mistake 'cuz of my writing, but....
There's still the question-word WHY left. I mean, I do understand your above statement, but this not the answer I longed for to get. Personally I see this comment of saving the roots for further generations as correct in a rational way, but in the same way I still think it has no basis.
Still the question is: WHY can somebody be proud of something randomly given he/she hasn't conrolled, achieved, whatever in this sense?
Personally I see this pride as blind and totally lacking of some basis...So I ask...
I mean, where's the point of someone who says: "Yeah, I'm proud of being <insert countryname here>" So wheres the point of having/showing this pride?
Does this matter? Do I need this? That are 2 questions I like to ask, too

Might be that I'm just very confused (so u can guess where my "Natural Born Psycho" above my avatar comes from)and so don't know how to express this in English, but yeah...hopefully someone on this planet called earth understands me...

@ Patrick: Yeah I know this, but as long as people still talk 'bout and I see no sense in it ,I ask;):D

well, at first this is a feeling. explaining a feeling rationally fails. it's like somebody having a affinity for beer or chocolate. you can ask him "why do you need it? it has no rational basis!" still he's got a longing for it.

basically, if you don't feel some affinity towards your own country, can you expect others to like it? can you expect others to accept your culture and way of live? surely in todays derooted society one can ask "do we need culture at all"? well, if i look at a certain nation which has not the best reputation culturewise, i can only say: definitly yes!

don't you enjoy aspects of cultures, whether your own or foreign? if so, you have to accept that these cultures need to be fostered and lived in every day live to exist in the first place! postmodern eclectic trendfollowers, who just "pick out the candies" of every culture forget about that. but they're morrons anyways! so there have to be people who have an interest in their own culture to keep it alive! and pride seems to be an imortant part of it!

as i said before usually this pride comes from a time when some cultures where looked down upon and scorned! if someone tells you your country, language and origin is crap, you have to show some pride to live it! and to live your culture in times of opression is neccesary for it to endure!

Wow....pretty good explanation Fleischi, and I have to congratulate you for this. Really, good stuff and I can follow your ideas.

But theres one thing left for me at all. Is it really pride you're descriping?
Direct pride? Personally I don't expect others to accept my roots, "take it or leave it" is the ticket for me.

Your link with the culture isn't bad, but is it really pride which saves a special culture to survive, and do I need pride for doing this? For example I'm really interested into cultures(yeah, seems you got a wound point of me), germanic, asian(especially martial arts in conection with their way of life-fuckin' interesting), and others are very interesting too,'cuz every has its own "spirit" and some are very close to each other.
I pick what I want, think it over, add my own impressions&thoughts to define myself, to understand the human as it and I think that cultures are important for us to define ourselves(or at least they do help in certain ways), but do I really need pride to think that it should be protected?

Perhaps "pride" is just a word with a too extreme meaning for descriping this....

Another question just came into my mind. National pride as a sign of rebellion of a minority against the oppressing majority...Okay, so far (means I can follow this)...But, I'm not oppressed, so do i still need this(please link this woth my last text)?
When someone tries to oppress me, he will have a hell of a ride with me, and so its a personal question, not a nation-wide.
And the 3.Reich (yeah, it finally came up) won't be able to come up in the way we had 60 years ago.
And, this rebellion stuff as a lil smack of posing such as "I'm here and you can lick my hairy ass"(feels like"I'm so strong":bah: ), and i don't like posing 'round that much, an I think this is only a lesser reason.
The biggest possible reason for me is the fact that pride implies superiority in a more or lesser way (depends on the person). So fuckin' why should I feel superior for nothing, for random "generated" things?
Or have I just understood something wrong?

@Patric: Easier said then done...

little example:
a musician has built his instrument himself as many other do
of course he is proud of his creation, but is he superior to the other musicians who built their instruments as well?

no, he could be proud, because he has achieved something or cuz he has a unique instrument noone else owns

Right, but as stated before, that this "superior-shit" depends on the person, so its not general, so even nothing-at-all is possible;):)

So, but you're the guy who influenced me asking the whole bunch of stuff, and I haven't got an answer from you(appears a bit strange in my eyes)...In my opinion its time for you to explain your ideas;)

@Patric:
I think you need something to do...sexually...so, you know what is to be done;):):loco::D
