Wanted to start a thread on which band you saw and heard at bloodstock for the first time and totally blew you away..... :worship:

I wandered into Darwin after the masterplan signing and beheld Illuminatus! I was transfixed - shivers down the spine stuff - and it wasn't due to the air conditioning. The singer is really really good - powerful, emotional, a good front man. Brill guitarist - guitar is my 'thing' - and the bassist looked like he was having the time of his life. Cool drummer too who held it all together with a pulsating beat. Their songs are well -written and I enjoyed every second. Just wish their ep had been on sale somewhere......

Also, Nightwish - totally bemused me and some stuff I didn't like, but whenever there was a duet going on, especially with 'Hagrid' it was truly awesome! Looking down from the balcony while a hoard of metal heads listened and moved to 'Snowman', is something I won't ever forget! Surreal!

Hi Lydian Lady,

This is Julio, the singer of illuminatus... i wanted to say thanks for your post, it's great to see so many people enjoyed our set!

Our EP was for sale in the merch area, we had a little stall and everything (we stole the space that was supposed to belong to Nightwish and Paradise Lost!)... however you can still get a copy of our new EP 'Aborted Revolutions'... Send an e-mail to mark@illuminatus.biz and sort out all the details.

Also, we'll be playing live at Junktion7, Nottingham on Friday Sept 26th if anyone wants to check us out again.

I totally missed your set!! Everyone said you rocked, and I didn't see you! That many people can't be wrong!

I think I spoke to you at the party afterwards, but I was a little pished *ahem* I was the one in the pvc bra sitting with Bates Motel. :Smokedev:

I will do my best to get back up to Nottingham for the 26th to see you-- can't pass up a second opportunity!

Rock on!

Taz

The band I didn't expect to enjoy but loved was saracen - such a pity that they didn't get a bigger crowd, 'cos they rocked.

Didn't catch much on the 2nd stage - just 10 mins each of waylander, Fulc and Biomechanical. Fulc just edged out the other two IMHO.

I've seen Nightwish before (in Germany), but watching from the balcony was amazing - the audience (well at least those who didn't have to leave early) were totally transfixed by Tarja and the band. Very moving indeed! Audiences outside of London are just so much better!

B/Stock 01 - Primal Fear
B/Stock 03 - hadnt heard of Dragonforce, powerquest or nightwish. Heard some stuff on the net, bought their cds + had a 'kin fantastic time at Derby. All 3 rool :OMG:

I have to say, I regret not spending more time at the Darwin Suite. I didn't really give any of the bands there more than a minute or two to "prove" themselves to me, which isn't really fair as a lot metal bands require a real good listen before you can genuinely enjoy their stuff. I feel kind of ashamed since I remember saying beforehand that I was looking forward to the new talent, but when I actually got to the festival I just didn't "feel like it". Blaze recommended Fourwaykill to me, but I had to excuse myself to go see Masterplan (I dunno if he remembers this conversation, probably not but I can always dream). To be honest Masterplan WERE very good but they didn't blow me away like I thought they would, so in a way I feel I made a bad decision. My special apologies to Blaze and Fourwaykill! On the plus side I'm sure Fourwaykill will be pleased to hear that someone as famous as Blaze is enjoying their stuff.

To make it up to Blaze (I feel bad for not taking note, really; I respect him SO much and for me to just say "sorry I'd rather see another band, um... bye..." was a bit unappreciative when he was being so cool promoting a new band like that) I listened to the MP3 samples on Fourwayweb. My basic impression is that these guys have some very nice guitar work, but in all honesty the shouting bothers me. Overly-aggressive shouting isn't something I'm too kean on in heavy metal - Blaze and Matt Barlow are the only metal vocalists whose shouting voices I truly enjoy. The Fourwaykill vocalist needs to try and sound more like his most famous fan and less like Slipknot. So if Fourwaykill are reading this, there's some constructive criticism for you. :)

Well I've loved Nightwish for 2 yearsish now and this was the first time I've seen them live. They blew me away, miles away. And What a stage presence, I've never seen anything like it.

I agree with the comments about Saracen, I'd never heard of them before but they were really good, and they seemed to give it their all dispite the smallish crowd. I hope they return to Bloodstock soon.

Edguy were another band I never heard of before the festival, Don't know why because they are right up my street! But I loved them, from what I saw, and they too were great performers.

Paradise Lost blew me away for the wrong reasons >:-(

Apart from Nightwish and Saracen I'd seen all the mainstage bands before at some point so I had a good idea what to expect.

I also really wanted to see Fourwaykill as they were fucking awesome in Bradford on wednesday. Sadly they clashed with Masterplan and Masterplan are currently in my top free 3 bands so there was no way I'd miss them. I'll certainly be driving to Nottingham to see Fourwaykill with Infobia and Biomechanical. What a brilliant night that promises to be.

Actually a band I'd not seen on the mainstage before was 5th man down who I thought were good but not excellent.

Thus my Virginstock bands are Saracen and Nightwish

Yep, I think I'd agree. The original question was which band impressed you that you had heard for the first time at Bloodstock. For me, that was Saracen. Of those that I'd heard but not seen before, Nightwish (obviously), Cruel Humanity and perhaps 5th Man Down.

Cruel Humanity - came in midway through their set, was blown away, picked up their CD later, and love it

Bates Motel - awesome stuff, had a Black Label feel that I loved

I already made a seperate post but Masterplan vwere the band who really blew me away.

Oh, and Dragonforce, absolutely stunning. Herman Li had to be the greatest guitarist there surely.

Dean.

What better than Roland Grapow and Dirk and Jens from Edguy??? I'm a fan of Dragonforce but ....sorry ...don't agree with you there!

Cheers dude.

Personally, I didn't catch much music because I was trying to chat with people after our show, but I've seen (and gigged with) Illuminatus, Blaze and Dragonforce before and all are great bands.

Nightwish were the only band I caught that I'd never heard off before, and was really good stuff, great band to round off a wonderful day.

I'm pleased to hear that some of you appreciated Saracen! its good for me to hear because i'm a close friend to all the band members! i've known them all my life! I was so nervous for them because i wanted them to do well...therefore, the crowd size was disappointing but the reaction from some was unbeliavble! You could see some hardcore rockers at the front waving their fists! there were a surprising amount of people that knew the band from the 80s, when they released their album! Rob Bendelow (the founder of the band) sees me as their biggest fan, because i love them to bits! There was a birthday party last night that i went to and they performed...

To rap it up though, i'm glad you liked what you heard and for info on the album, go to www.nowandthen.co.uk OR for Rob's solo album, which is amazing..go to www.templarmusic.co.uk !
