With some metal records ive come across recently namely the howllow crown record by Architects

There appears to be no room verb or delay on his voice at all a lot of the time.
Ive tried doing this myself but the voice just sounds weak or too loud and in no way at all apart of the song. Yet on these records it sounds like the most natural thing ever.

How does this work :\ ?

Yeah dude, I don't know how folks get away with this.

This is a bad example but my friend and I used to always joke about Manowar's "louder than hell." It sounds like he is in the fucking car with you yelling in your ear.

A lot of modern productions have minimal reverb on the vocals. If your vocals sound weak, it's because of the vocalists technique, and if they sound too loud, turn them down! :) Helping them blend with the song is just level EQ and compression if you don't use reverb. You just need to approach it slightly differently.
