hi, guys, i got a lend of an old marshall 4x12" with 30 watt celestions and was giving it a good going over in my "live room" (read: garage!). The thing is, I usually have my 5150 mk1 at around 3 (rhythm channel with around 7/8 pre-gain) for playing in the band, but i thought i'd crank it a bit louder to see how she sounds. I quit with the post-gain at 5. That is DAMN loud!
So, I was just wondering what volume you guys usually record a cab at?

It depends on the amp. For my 5150, I really crank it(about 7 or 8). For my JCM800 and 900 I crank it all the way to max, or real close. Obviously, this all depends on your setup. I have a soundproofed closet sized room for amps, so I'm able to put the cabinet thee and keep the heads in the control room. Of course, if you're going for a cleaner sound, don't crank it high.
