How's that? I tested out the method discussed earlier here. First I had just bass and vocals going and I adjusted them to taste, then I added the kick drum and adjusted more, then snare, then overheads. Then guitars and FX stuff, and finally once it sounded good I added the master channel stuff.

It was quite different, and the first mix was way too muffled sounding, so I did some further tweaks. But overall the bass+vox start is quite fun, and for once the bass isn't lost  But that brings another issue :erk: I still feel the bass is too smooth sounding, not enough metal-y grit in it, but that was hard to coerce with plugins. Maybe with a Boss ODB3 or something it would be easier.

The file size is 6.66MB.

I like the overall tone of things, but like already said, the bass is a little too up front for me. There's definitely some clipping going on also. Interesting approach to mixing. Hmmmm...

hey Torniojaws, do you remember who wrote this tip with bass etc? :P i forgot to copy that, and can't find it now

ok! i found ;P hehe

Yes, the kick is 100 % replaced  It's from a kick sample pack posted here about a year ago. From a Decapitated album, but I don't know which. Oh and there's no additional processing on the kick, just the sample. I'm a devout fan of picking a sound that fits the mix, instead of processing a sample to fit the mix. I think I went through 30 or so kick samples to find the perfect one :)

The pack has these samples (from a text file that came with it):

36 crazyfists
ancient
anthrax
children of bodom
curca survive
cradle of filth
decapitated
decrepit birth
diabolical masqurade
dimmu borgir
dissection
dying fetus

megadeth
mnemic
morbig angel
nightwish
pantera
slayer
stryper
suffocation
todiefor
trivium

I agree that the vocals might be a tad loud, but it may just be the varying styles of vocals because some bits seem louder than other.

I love this song man. It's just written so well and is totally what I'm into. The guitar playing is just excellent and the tone fits in the mix really well. The growls are just awesome, and the drums sound awesome.

To me if sounds like the kick could be from the 'Nihility' Decapitated album but I also think there is a bit more high end on that kick than there is on your song so I'm not sure. There are instances where the click is more apparent then others.

Great job overall! :)
