How's that? I tested out the method discussed earlier here. First I had just bass and vocals going and I adjusted them to taste, then I added the kick drum and adjusted more, then snare, then overheads. Then guitars and FX stuff, and finally once it sounded good I added the master channel stuff.
It was quite different, and the first mix was way too muffled sounding, so I did some further tweaks. But overall the bass+vox start is quite fun, and for once the bass isn't lost
But that brings another issue
I still feel the bass is too smooth sounding, not enough metal-y grit in it, but that was hard to coerce with plugins. Maybe with a Boss ODB3 or something it would be easier.
