VST vs. VST3 vs. AU

I thought VST 3 was better on cpu because it only processed audio when it was being passed through the plugins?

Some DAWs do smart disable already. FL Studio has for years.

The problem with smart disable and VST3 cpu efficiency/economy is when you hit the chorus and have dropouts, glitches and crashes because suddenly all the plugins are running. I kinda prefer having the same cpu load, its at least easier to predict what will happen.

You can disable it in Cubase preferences: VST---> Plug-ins ---> Suspend VST3 plug-in processing when no audio signals are received
