WARNING! This post may contain spoilers...
Let me throw this out there for everyone.
OK, the Aliens decided "millions" of years ago to take over the earth (according the Tim Robbins). So they visited earth to drop off thier war machines so that when the time was right they could enslave mankind and claim the planet as thier own.
If you had visited earth that long ago, why not just take it over then? Just stay on the planet and rule it. There were no people around back then to have to conquer. And if there were no people around to conquer why drop off your war machines? Who are you going to war with the apes? ( you damn dirty apes )
AND if you had visited earth long ago to drop off your war machines, being the super smart aliens that you are, why didn't you test the air for germs?
AND AND How did you know that grinding up people in your war machines and shooting them out like fertilizer would help your red weed grow? Although that was kind of cool, Cruise should have been mulch.
Spielbergo really dropped the ball when he decided to let the changes to the original plot happen.
It was much more compelling when the Martians had never been to the planet until the invasion.
Oh well, good ol Hollywood blunders again.
