warning: not in the least bit metal

I like the song ;)

Do you have any compression on the 2bus? I hear volume jumps ( like the clean open string in the middle), maybe it's just pumping.

In the verses, the vocals are a bit loud for me, but dunno what happens in the chorus, everything but the vocals sound small to me. Maybe automating drums, guitars and bass to be higher in volume for the chorus?
Also, the autotune artifact are intentional I guess? ( on the "ohh no")
I'd also lower the uber reverb return on the gang vocals a little bit, and lower them at the start.

I also, feel you should bring the bass more in your face, this style calls for it IMO

Everything sounds great, so good job ;)

Thanks man!

Yeah, I'm pretty much with you on all those points. (and yes the autotune is intentional)

I'm not sure if I can push the instruments up any more than they already are cause they are pretty much already smashed against all the stuff on the 2bus. I do have compression going on there, plus two gclips and event horizon, not to mention an EQ and stereo widener.

I'm gonna give it a whirl anyway though cause you are definitely right, things go wonky in the chorus.

I'm willing to bet 99% of you will hate the song, but try to ignore that.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the vocals to sit right, mainly in the chorus. any and all advice appreciated - I'm coming up on a tight deadline for this project.

What'd you mean this isn't metal? It's metal hooks all over the shop! It's just like pop metal! Loving this man!

wow thanks for the compliments!

I really think this is like the worst mix I have ever done, this is my fifth revision and I still hate it. It sounds so amateur when compared to pro mixes... especially the vox. I gotta get my vox compression skills down or something, I don't even know.

I'm strongly considering tearing this down to raw tracks and starting over.

This is a seriously good mix. I don't like the drums (the subs on the kick are amazing though - what kick?), but the guitars are incredible, what'd you use?

Vocals need less reverb. And use one with a longer tail (sounds garagey in spots, like it was recorded in a garage then comp'd for a ton of room sound). And cut some 1k from them, quite a bit. It makes them stick out way too much. They could be lowered in volume in spots too, esp at like 1;45 where the master bus comp drops the volume of everything else to make room for the vox.

Could you maybe upload a 30sec bit of the instrument mix, and the raw vocals for that spot, and I'll see if I can improve a bit on what you've done?

word, yeah, I hear you on the garage reverb.. I'm thinking of trying out the redline reverb demo.

guitars are just a 5150 through a custom cab with v30s and an sm57, or i5 - I don't actually remember... it's simple as can be... we just like tuned literally every 2 seconds so it's probably in as perfect tune as a guitar can be - I think that helped the tone a lot, plus I pick almost as hard as I possibly can and that makes stuff sound pretty heavy.

I think the kicks are slate 4 and 10 mixed 50/50 with the natural kick, I can double check tomorrow.

I'll try to find the time tomorrow to get you a few clips for the chorus. I'll send you a PM.

ps. here's another newer mix for anyone that is interested - www.fromheredown.com/WhatADifferenceMIX6.mp3
