And in an interview, Mike promised a new setlist for 2009! Burden and/or Hessian Peel will be played @ Close-Up Båten!

Which albums do you like better?Wow, no offence towards Close-Up, but best album of the year? There are like dussins and even tons of amazing albums out there. I always thought Close-Up ignored a lot of the astounding material and writes mostly about more popular bands, etc.
Don't get me wrong, Watershed is a good piece of work, but i feel it's way too overrrated by the scene media in comparison to a lot of albums out there.
However, Hessian Peel live sounds very promising. That song is my favourite one on Watershed. I figure i might head to Orebro and catch that gig, and hopefully they'll play that song there too.
And congrats to Opeth.

Decrepit Birth - Diminishing Between Worlds, one hell of an album.
Origin - Antithesis
Meshuggah - ObZen
Gojira's - Way of All Flesh
Cynic - Traced In Air
and what about Terminal Functions - Measuring The Abstract, which i find a good debut. Then there is, Severed Savior and the new deeds Of Flesh.
Yeah there are many albums out i feel deserve recognition, but the new Decrepit Birth would be my personal fav of this year. But as far as the list i am simply talking about the Close-Up list, cos i read their top 100 albums from 92-2008, and there were much good metal missing from there.
But as far as my personal stand to watershed, i enjoy that album very much, i just think it's generally overrated in media.
I think Ayreon - 01011001 is the best album of the year, and propably the best album ever.
Listen to Cynic, it's a lot different than the other bands he mentioned.Origin... wow, I'm picking up on a pattern here... all blast beats, all the time. Again, excellent musicianship, difficult to tell one song from the next.
Don't get me wrong, I like a good blast beat every once in a while, and I don't mind good death metal vocals, either, I just need more diversity in my music, although I completely understand that there are a large number of people such as yourself who just dig 24-7 br00tz. Nothing wrong with that, and to each his own, but I wouldn't say that Opeth is "overrated" compared to these bands, they're just different. I'd even go as far as to say it's really not even a legitimate comparison. Bloodbath would be much closer to that vein than Opeth is. Opeth has really never been an exclusively death metal band, and has always displayed a much wider sphere of influences than the other bands you mentioned, with far more prog, folk and straight-ahead metal flavors than any of them. Again, not that this necessarily makes them better (that's entirely subjective), just different. You dig the br00tz, nothing wrong with that, just understand that some people like a tad more diversity in their metal.
Thanks for the entertaining listening suggestions and much-needed diversion, though!![]()
Opeth - Watershed is the 2nd best metal albnum of the year. Cynic - Traced in Air is the first one.
