"We survey the slopes" .....what?

My two cents:

The slopes could mean the "ups" or "downs" of life - the moments when our lives go for the better or the worse. The person of the song surveys those slopes with some people (perhaps the ones, whose slopes they are). It could be that his/their eyes should be elsewhere (in the future, in the "peaks", etc.), instead of being on the current failure/success, which they can't explain (as they don't have the wisdom of hindsight) - thus the search for the words and the missing page.

Perhaps.

I also read that Mikael improvised the whole Still Life album in his pyjamas when he was asleep in the studio! He also did the cover art by accident.*

*I read this in "Hello!"

My pride...is slipping away...

Anyhoo, YOU DIDN'T SEE TEH OPETH GOSSIP IN HELLO!?

Yes, although the gossip in question is slightly... bollocks.

;)

*chants* Interesti reads Hello, Interesti reads Hello... *chants*

But everyone wants to know that Mikael improvised "Still Life" whilst sleeping! And that he was in PYJAMAS! You suck :(

"we survey the slopes"

Nope. It's not something you hear very often unless you're on a rescue squad or some shit. Powerslave, I was at a loss the first time I sat down with Opeth's lyrics. I believe it was Orchid lyrics. I wanted to know how the hell this line fit into everything else the song's lyrics had...said to me. I'd say Morningrise (the UM member :)) summed it up best. The lyrics make sense to the writer. If it makes you crazy, figure out your own meaning for them. How you think they might have been meant at the time.

Bleakest Harvest:
Especially for lyrics he came up wiht in the car on the way to the studio!

Punisher:
then how do you explain the fact that opeth played advent live several times before recording?

Do you know it all? Cos, if you do, why don't you just explain everything so you won't have to come back with your ruler and correct ((SMACK)) anyone else. :p

He's come up with lyrics on the spot. I was more under the impression that from MAYH and on they were quickly written, but as for Orchid and Morningrise, I don't know.
