We want Symphony X!

Well, i would like to see 2 hours of the X, but i think its a bit harsh to tell stratovarius to go home, after all there are probably people that prefer them.

But yeah i agree that under an hour of symphony X is a bit...unfulfilling.

i love symphony x more than strato... but dude.... they are not that bad! I am looking forward to seeing them at wacken. Granted... sym x headlining would be killer, but strato is a great band too.

Here's the deal. Strato invited SymX to go along on this tour with them. This gives SymX the chance to play more venues than they might have been able to as a headliner, as well as bigger venues than they might otherwise. This, in addition to the shot at making some new fans, makes this an excellent opportunity for SymX..one they wouldn't have had without Strato. So let's not be so harsh, shall we? As Mike Romeo said when we discussed the fans complaining about them opening for BG last year, isn't 45 minutes of SymX better than none at all?

i agree... stratovarius was very kind to invite the band along, and i am sure the band would agree. Besides... they are supposed to headline after the re-release of their re-recorded album anyway aren't they?

sheesh, you people are hard to please. Its funny too, because I remember seeing soooo much Blind Guardian bashing here when they were doing that tour but over on the BG forum every Blind Guardian fan was saying how much Symphony X rocked.

Methinks the prog crowd needs to lighten up and see that theres more to metal than 7/8 time signatures and 10 minute long songs...though honestly theres more tolerance for powermetal here than on say, some OTHER bands message boards...lets just call them Dream T. no wait thats too obvious...D. Theater ;)

Man I sure wouldn't want to be the band going on after Symphony X every night LOL

Which part are you referring to? That the prog crowd needs to lighten up? Or that we're more tolerable of powermetal here than that other board? Because the latter is very true, IMO.

Here is my opinion, and I may upset some people, but anyway.......
I agree the posts are rather harsh ("F*** Blind Guardian, Stratovarius Go Home, etc...") But no matter WHO the guys open for, after seeing a performance, new fans realize that they just experienced something VERY special. It's a disappointment that there wasn't more. AND, fans can't understand how a band like this can't maintain a headlining tour and pack clubs. I understand that it takes exposure and time, and am happy for them that they are gaining many new fans. I really don't think it's going to be too long until many many people are into SymX. Fans are just responding to how they feel after experiencing a brief performance, and Mike should be flattered to know that response is so strong for them. He's got the most incredible band in the world and many are beginning to realize this. They work hard and deserve every reward that comes to them. Being a Forum member, I notice that a new SymX fan is a devoted fan right from the start. As much as I want to see them headline near me again, I would be happy to see them get to South America, Australia, and the more remote areas in America too. EVERYBODY should be able to get to know what these guys are doing....so if (at this time), it takes opening for a band who is very popular in other parts of the world to get exposure for them, then it's all the best for them. I remember George Thorogood once told me at the height of his career that he can take the band anywhere in southern USA and pack every venue, but anywhere in the northern part of this country, he can't even tour as a headliner because hardly anyone comes. It's a very strange phenomenon. :Spin: A lot of what Symphony X will do is contingent on what InsideOut Music will be doing for them.

A majority of prog fans like power metal plenty.

a *majority*? hardly dude. How many prog fans do you know? I'd say theres a good number of people, but...I mean I wouldn't even go as far as saying the majority of THIS forum's prog fans are power fans too, judging by how much bashing both Blind Guardian and Stratovarius are getting.
